my inner voice, wise: ah, but this cannot be... because I am part of "everyone"... and until I am sick of reading about them... it will not be everyone

i have seen too much of the whole ...white people telling on themselves (especially in fandom, public spaces) and it just coming off like...? looking for forgiveness? acceptance? validation? like they want "aww its ok" like no. it wasnt okay that you did that or thought that or said that 😭 and people hurt by you don't owe it to you to tell you it's okay for YOU the ONE white individual that for some reason feels they should be excused

because now you're "one of the good ones" because you're a Little tumblr-leftist (which the flavor of focuses almost solely on queer issues with White queer people in mind if we are being honest)

well for one thing: if you say "i don't see color" with sincerity you're not one of the good ones i'll tell you that much

if you shut down people of color, especially Black or Indigenous people, or even just people lacking full access to white privilege trying to talk about racism, colorism, colonial mindsets, anti-blackness, etc. in your fandom at all, you're not one of the good ones

i'll include my tags from the original because i want to add: just like in every day apologies, what matters is the taking accountability and changing the behavior

people can say empty "sorry"s all day what matters is actually making the effort to avoid the same thing happening again

in my experience it's the same thing with being white. which can be a slippery slope into White Guilt and all that, but what you have to do is be mindful and focus on your goals. it's not about you. it's about ending the cycle AT you.

your goals should be "how can i dismantle white supremacist ideals from my thinking and my reactions" "how can i lessen the burden on the victims of white supremacy with my own actions" and yknow? at the micro level: sometimes it's as easy as just: staying quiet. listen to them. you don't have to add anything especially if it's to just derail and make it about you

of course still do the bigger work, but i think too many people focus on these grand ideas of being a big VOICE or activist HERO or something and then you kick off your shoes and you can turn it off, but like...no dismantling white supremacy is work to be done in your day-to-day too. maybe even MORE importantly in some cases

people love to say "it's not that deep" "don't bring politics into fandom we're just trying to have fun :(" but...fandom IS political sorry. just because you plug your ears and close your eyes doesn't make fandom not political. it's always been a reflection of the status of the rest of the world because ART is. art is inherently political

I'll go ahead and summarize the arguments she made as to why she thinks homework sucks:

It doesn't actually promote self-sufficiency. Kids who don't struggle with organization and discipline at school will also not struggle with their homework, but kids who do struggle at school and need more help will also struggle while trying to get anything done at home.

It's inherently unfair/unequal. Children's home situations are so very different, some kids have their own desk and computer in a quiet room and at least one parent around who has the time & knowledge to help them plus the financial means to hire a tutor, while some children don't even have their own room and their parents might not be around or lack the education and means to be of any help at all.

AI exists and can be used to do almost all homework and most kids use it.

Assigning and checking homework and enforcing consequences when students don't do it is a waste of class time and creates an unpleasant atmosphere.
