"I don't know how to use them." Petra slid about a dozen small jars onto the table in front of Pelna, and then paused before pushing them forwards, closer to Pelna. "Listen, you know Galahd food is spicey and I want to surprise her ..." and Fortis would be the first to admit Insomnian food was bland, now that he knew what mainland food tasted like. Meeting Khara's gaze, he shrugged. "I don't know how to use these," he gestured loosely, embarrassed, at the spices. "- I want to surprise Selena."
it was one of those days that had become normal in meldacio - a quiet lull, despite the trucks that rolled in and out. yeah, the war still waged, blockades erected on the main thoroughfares, airships humming overhead, but meldacio managed that as it did with an influx of new recruits and a wave of refugees that needed resettling; in its stride.
jobs were dished out and the wheels kept turning. he'd shouldered his fair share of tasks; training, hunting, setting up a clinic in the outpost and getting supplies to and from lestallum to the other outposts.
but eyeing the litany of small glass jars, pelna could honestly say this was new territory, he'd never been asked to help out with cooking before.
arching a brow, he reached out and turned one of the jars petra had set out on the kitchen table so that he could red the label better, then let his brown eyes wander up to petra's face ... wow. well, there was character growth at least. there was no way the city guard would have asked for his help six months ago, but they'd both been different people back then.
twisting the other jars around, he ran an eye over the different spices - yeah, they'd all do, but not for long if he wanted to do some galahdan dishes.
' okay ... what are you at for today? ' pelna stood back from the table, arching his back to glanced out the window to see how many trucks were still parked on the grass verge.
' fancy a supply run to lestallum - the market there is a treasure trove, and if you want to surprise her, you're going to need some seafood. everyone goes for the meet skewers for galahdan food, but it's a string of islands - their staples are fish and seafood. '
