"slavery still exists in the US" isn't the weird gotcha against juneteenth that some folks act like it is. the point of juneteenth isn't *just* that chattel slavery ended, but that it took longer than it should have because white people only let go of it when absolutely forced to. that forced labor still exists in the US is entirely within the spirit of the holiday, because today should absolutely be both a day for celebrating the fall of chattel slavery AND a call to continue to fight against other forms of slavery that still exist within the US. today is an anti-slavery day, both a celebration and a call to action
