“As the tide washed in, the Dutch Tulip Man faced the ocean: "Conjoiner rejoinder poisoner concealor revelator. Look at it rising up and rising down, taking everything with it."
"What's that," I asked.
"Water," the Dutchman said. "Well, and time."
Dean doesn't know how it happens. It is an ordinary day, the three of them are hanging out in the bunker and Cas breaks out in a small laugh over something Sam says. Dean feels his heart is going to burst. Which is totally weird and he doesn't really understand why he feels that way. It's not like Cas hasn't laughed before. He turns his attention towards his sandwich.
Him and Cas are at a grocery store once-well, Cas was with him and now Dean is turning around and scanning the aisles when suddenly he spots Cas- crouched down in front of a little kid who has evidently been crying. Dean catches the words "you shouldn't let go off your older brother in the store. Older brothers are important people, I know one who would go to the ends of the worlds for his younger brother. They mostly always know best for their younger sibling." Cas smiles a faint smile at the kid again, and the older boy with him shoots him a grateful look. Dean has no explanation for the tightening in his throat and why his own face has a smile.
They are in a park asking some question to local residents. Dean has just finished talking to a couple of teens when he notices that Cas is talking to an old lady. He wonders what his angel friend is talking about to this lady who seems hard of hearing and will hardly be of help to them in the investigation- and Cas has pulled out a a bunch of flowers from his trenchcoat (Dean makes a note to ask him how he did that) and the old woman is so surprised and looks so happy. She touches Cas's cheek briefly, with her frail hand and thanks him. Cas smiles again, his shy, lopsided smile and it hits Dean with the force of thunder that he likes to see Cas smile. Cas has noticed him and with the same smile and (Dean doesn't know if he imagines it) with a bit more light in his eyes, he simply says "Dean."
Dean realizes he likes it even more when Cas's smile is directed at him.
