You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.

The 10 Most Popular Bars for St. Patrick's Day
Heading out to the bar for St. Patrick's Day to throw back some whiskey, green beer, Guinness, pickelbacks—or all of the above?
Consider this list of the most popular St. Patrick's Day bars in the Los Angeles area compiled by Foursquare. These were the bars with the most check-ins on March 17, 2011, and it's a good list to keep in mind if you're trying to find—or avoid—the crowds:
Casey's Irish Pub in downtown L.A. The Happy Ending Bar & Restaurant in Hollywood Dillon's Irish Pub & Grill in Hollywood Joxer Daly's in Culver City Heroes Bar and Grill in Fullerton The Abbey Food & Bar in West Hollywood Dublin's Irish Pub in downtown L.A. The Auld Dubliner in Long Beach Ye Olde King's Head in Santa Monica Rush Street in Culver City
It's worth noting there's some overlap between this list and Complex Magazine's 25 douchiest bars in Los Angeles: The Happy Ending Bar & Restaurant, where LAist editors got food poisoning and Dillon's, where once some Nickelodeon stars got sloshed and tried to drive home, made both lists. But we had nice things to say about Rush Street in a review of its food on a quiet day in February.
We're surprised Tom Bergin's, Molly Malone's and a few others didn't pop up on the list. But you can check out our St. Patrick's Day drinking map from 2010. Just do us a favor and don't order an Irish car bomb or count on the luck of the Irish to avoid a DUI.
We love eating our greens!

12 Christmas Party Themes You Haven't Thought of Yet
The Ugly Sweater Party
If you managed to go this long in life without acquiring some horrific Christmas sweater — you know, the ones with the puff paint snowmen and the mistletoe-patterned mock turtlenecks — from your great aunt Mildred, then you may have to run to the nearest K-Mart to purchase one for this party of holiday fashion faux pas. We promise they don't cost more than $15, and the photos will most definitely be priceless.

Whether you are in a cubicle or a corner office...it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
A corporate holiday party is a chance to thank all of those who have worked so hard for your organization throughout the year. Â Make the party memorable and special by choosing a fabulous location and following some of the tips below.
1. Start Early
Don’t wait until a month or two before to start planning. In order to get the best venue, you need to book your corporate holiday party as soon as you have a date.Â
Planning early will allow you take your time when choosing the menu and the theme and give you a chance to tweak things along the way.
2. Form a Committee
Rather than trying to handle the entire party planning process on your own, form a committee to help. Depending on the size of your organization and the size of the party, you could have just a couple of helpers or several. For bigger committees, set various people in charge of different aspects of the party such as games, food and printed materials. Meet monthly early in the planning process and then more often as party time draws closer.
First Things First
Before you get too involved in planning a corporate holiday party, you will need to decide on a couple of things that will set the tone for the rest of the planning.
1. What is your budget?
You must know exactly what the party budget is before you plan a single thing. Some choose to augment a smaller budget by having the employees buy tickets. Â
2. Who will be invited?
Will the party be just for employees and their partners or will you be inviting families? Obviously, there will be a difference between a party with children in attendance and one for adults only.
