The music at the start is different with a different song playing in the car as Monica Bannum drives home and a different soundtrack in the intercut scenes of the FBI search on the ice field. I think the original score was better but I guess CC wanted a change and without Mark Snow he improvised.

Scully’s first scene is shorter and the doctor she consults doesn’t say “If there were I’d sure you’d tell me” – it was rather rude but I do love SassyScully! 😂

Cut – Scully opening the gate to the Unremarkable House – which takes away that hint of security.

Cut – M&S  getting on the helicopter

Cut – M&S looking at the photo of George Bush in the Hoover building while the theme tune plays. Was a bit corny I guess.

Cut – Mulder: “Just avoid the activities room.”

Cut - Father Joe: “They're in what you might call my mind's eye.”

The scene at Father Joe’s cuts after Scully says ‘He doesn’t want me here” so Mulder doesn’t say that he wants her here. Also takes out Scully’s “I’m done chasing monsters in the dark” line which is a mistake IMO as it minimises Scully’s involvement and gives no explanation as to why it then cuts to just Mulder in the car with Drummy, Whiney & Father Joe.

Cut – the conversation in the car between Drummy, Mulder and Father Joe where Mulder says he used to work on these kind of cases, plus the mention of Samantha.

Cut – Scully asking Father Ybarra for Christian’s charts back.

The scene where Scully goes back to her office and cries is moved to after the Cheryl Cunningham is attacked in her car. Which makes no sense as that happens at night and Scully’s office is clearly in sunlight and then it goes to the bed scene. Plus it shows Scully reaching for the files that, in this edit, we don’t see Mulder give her.

The bed scene starts with Scully talking about the toxicology report. NO KISSES. NO LITTLE SOMETHING. NO MENTION OF WILLIAM. 😡😡😡

Cut – Whitney reaching out to Mulder’s shaving cuts and Scully giving her the eyeball.

Change of dialogue after Mulder says it was the right thing to do to bring him in on the case,  Scully now says “It was the right thing, but not the right thing for you”. Huh?

Cut – M&S's discussion about how Mulder can't save Samantha. To be fair I never liked that bit of dialogue. To quote Mulder from Oubliette – “Not everything I do or say or think or feel goes back to my sister.” With this mention and the one in the car gone, it’s daft that they kept in the shot of Samantha’s photo on the back of Mulder’s office door, as without context a casual viewer would have no idea what it meant.

Cut - Whitney telling Mulder there’s a second victim.

New scene – Mulder going into the women’s changing room at the swimming pool

The scene with Cheryl Cunningham in the dog cage is moved to after the agents go to the pool, and expanded to show more of the operation on Franz

Overly religious music added to the scene with Scully doing the operation on Christian in a presumably OTT contrast of Good vs Bad Medicine as there’s then a brief cut back to Franz

The locker room scene doesn’t make much sense as Mulder clearly knows about Christian but in this edit we don’t have Scully telling him about the procedure she wants to try

Cut – Scully’s locker room lines - “We’re two people who come home at night, to a home now. I don’t want that darkness in my home" and “But I can tell you I won’t be coming home.” Is CC trying to pretend M&S aren’t living together? That they were just PLATONICALLY talking in bed (the little we see of it)?! 😠

The scene with Scully talking to Christian’s parents is intercut with Franz collecting the new organ and being intercepted by the police, which is just messy editing IMO.

Cut – The detective asking about Dacyshyn’s employer, so his reply that he’s sick makes no sense

Cut – Whitney to Mulder “I think this is a longe conversation”

Cut – some of the Mulder-Whtiney-Dacyshyn chase, with I think a few different shots of Mulder on the roof

Cut – M&S’s hallway dialogue after they confront Father Joe. Mulder just says “The second victim may be alive. Everybody's given up on her, but I'm not going to” then he walks off. So no declaration of love (boo!) but also no “it’s why we can’t be together” (so slight yey for that I guess)

Added – the scene of Mulder driving after Dacyshyn is a bit longer, as is the crash

CC kept his own appearance in though – the scariest part of the movie! 😂

Cut – Scully telling Mulder on the phone that the FBI agent is still alive.

I think the two-headed dog’s attack on Mulder is a bit longer

A few longer bits of Dacyshyn dragging Monica Bannum’s headless body out into the snow and then dragging Mulder

The final M&S scene cuts after Mulder says “Let it try” and I full on screamed at the TV. NO KISS!!! Damm you CC!!😡😡😡

The credits are the original theatre release version without the photos of the cast and crew that appear on the DVD release. Probably for the best – don’t let anyone other than CC be associated with this edit!

The rowboat scene is still there.

Summary: Overall my main impression was that the edit was a pointless endeavour and doesn’t make it any scarier IMO. Taking away some of the (few) lighter moments doesn’t make the darker ones scarier - it just makes the whole thing more depressing.

There were a lot more cuts than I was expecting and very minimal additions, none of which made it the slightest bit scarier IMO.

It seems CC’s main aim was to cut/alter any relationship scenes and try his best to pretend that M&S hadn’t been living together for all that time. It’s one thing to make edits to tighten the plot or alter the pace of the movie but to remove most of the MSR because, as CC said in an interview, there was enough such scenes in the revival (according to him and ABSOLUTELY NO ONE ELSE EVER) is just - URGH! 😖😖😖😖😖

Only slight bonus – no mention of William (so we can pretend he’s just off camera the whole time) and no Whitney flirting with Mulder.
