This passage just straight up confused me the first time I ever read it, and to some extent, it still boggles my mind that this statement is made in the Bible. Typically we see this statement used in the exact opposite way, if you’re not with us then you’re against us. So what exactly does Christ mean by this? Well personally, I see it as a blanket statement which extends to all people who are not opposing the teachings of Christ. These are the people who sympathize with Christians, and are also the people who are not taught to be Christians, but still follow Christ’s teachings and his salvation plan. Simply said, this is more of a passage stating that one doesn’t need to be taught to be a Christian than anything else. We often see Christianity as an organized machine, rather than an entity which moves and flows in its own way. True Christianity cannot really be taught, but must be felt in order to have an effect upon a person. But what does this mean for us? Well, for me, it means that Christians, in the organized sense, need to stop putting down those free moving, fluid Christians who we view as “less in touch” with God. It is not our place to judge who is and who isn’t in a relationship with Christ, instead we should be helping them to grow closer, while also learning from them. Get out there and disciple, but also learn from others, even if they’re doing things a little different, the message may very well be exactly the same, and that is what truly matters.

The world teaches you that love is a feeling, that you’re faithful when you love and if you’re unfaithful, you don’t. I’ve been with the same man for almost 8 years. We’ve gone through a lot, more than I could explain to any of you, not that there’s much need, but I’ve learned love through God. Love is not a feeling. Passion is the feeling. Love is a job. Constant growing, consistent progress and resistance, all come to mind when I think of love. God IS love, and He is the only who can teach us how to love, once we begin to understand how much He loves us. It has to be passed down. Until we peak into HIS love, only then can we pass it on and build a relationship on a strong foundation. Anything outside of that can be broken and torn apart easily. It is fragile. It may not withstand the storms and tornadoes that come by. Base your teachings from the Word and you will emotionally prepared and equipped to deal with others.

Psalm 121:1-8 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord,the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israelwill neither slumber nor sleep.
