Wait is that THIS cat?
IT IS
Turns out the scheming eunuch's love for you is genuine
So I follow N. D. Stevenson (comics writer and animator, most famous for Nimona and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) and his husband Lee Ostertag (also a comics writer and animator) on Instagram. When I started following them, they were both publicly presenting as women, and then a few years ago N. D. came out as transmasc nonbinary, and then earlier this year Lee also came out as transmasc. Anyway this is all setup to say that Lee had the chance to make the funniest post of all time and he took it:
Absolutely iconic.
I want to throw in that part of the context behind this meme was N.D. talking about how he sometimes gets hatemail for marrying a man as a former lesbian, and how many people seem to think he divorced his wife.
I have not managed to find anyone who thinks that in the wild, but it is so damn funny.
recently when im tempted to say 'i'm gonna kill myself' i try to correct it into saying "im gonna walk into the river and become a trout" or some other form of that. this is my new thing
btw this has graduated into me just saying "the trout population will be affected" and then not elaborating
this post has genuinely helped me so i used it as inspiration for todayâs hand lettering practice

call me crazy but I think it'd be easier if surgeons learned how to operate on fat bodies instead of expecting every single fat person to lose weight before getting surgery
This made me so fucking angry I have to inflict it on all of you.
whatâs the punchline here
wait
my publisher: Good morning! Huh did you advertise for the pre-sale yesterday? Because we launched twelve hours ago and we already made sales!
me: yeah, i posted on tumblr
publisher: .........tumblr?
me: that's where the gays are.
(link to Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a sapphic western)
update
publisher: And what is your marketing strategy on... tumblr?
me: idk, i shitpost at 2am?
publisher: .....and it works?
me: depends on what the gays find funny at that point in time.
publisher: Could I have a link to your tumblr?
me: .......absolutely not.
(link to Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a sapphic western where 50 year old women kiss and murder)
update!
publisher: I've been looking into tumblr, have you thought of using Blaze to promote your book?
me: NO
publisher: But it seems like an efficient way to get this in front of more eyes-
me: people on tumblr hate Blaze.
publisher: There is no algorithm and you can't pay to promote a post? I don't understand how anyone advertises anything on tumblr.
me: That's the best part. They don't. They can't.
(trying to make him understand that we do not control the attention. We just have to show something shiny and gay enough and if people are interested, they'll reblog.)
(Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a deconstruction of the colonialist cowboy mythos dressed up as a sapphic romance.)
update with picture of a pet!
This is Cosmos, my publisher's dog.
He barks at my publisher's phone notifications. So every time a book is sold, Cosmos barks.
It's been days.
I think you guys would love to know that when you buy a book, a dog barks in Vancouver, Canada.
(Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a story where women help women bury the body of your abusive husband.)
@thebibliosphere @pangur-and-grim
Well, thatâs one book waiting for me when I get back home! Also, please tell your publisher Cosmos is the goodest dog đ
Deadly egg recall
The FDA has upgraded an egg recall issued last month to âClass I,â its highest risk level, as it warns the public that consuming the products could cause âserious adverse health consequences or death.â
The recall of 1,589,577 dozen white-shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs was initially issued by Midwest Poultry Services in late July, which warned they might be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis.
According to the company, the eggs were produced and distributed from farms in Texas between June 6 and July 3 and have sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and August 17. The recalled egg cartons have either the code P-1950 or 0840962 and Julian Dates between 157-184.
source: X
Recalled eggs were shipped to foodservice and retail customers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Recalled eggs were available to consumers at Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana; Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana, and other smaller retail and foodservice outlets in these states plus Mississippi and New Mexico.
Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and New Mexico are the currently affected states.
one of the best pieces of advice I've ever heard (for myself, at least) is that if you're in a terrible mood and NOTHING is helping, then start doing the chores/responsibilities/job stuff/etc that you've been putting off. Will it put you in an even worse mood temporarily? Probably, but you're already pissed off, so you might as well double up on it at that point đ there's no loss. It's not like finally getting around to cleaning the house and scheduling appointments is going to ruin the good day that you aren't currently having to begin with đ And then, when the bad mood passes, you'll have gotten shit done and you'll feel a lot better later, even if in the moment you're having The Worst Time Ever about it.

reminder for all hockey fans:
netflix is making a hockey show called "the sticks" that is based on a very real tragedy that occured in canada in 2018.
the show follows a minnesota high school team after their bus crashes and coming back to hockey afterwards.
in 2018, the humboldt broncos' (a junior A team made up of 18-22 year olds) bus was hit by a tractor trailer on a highway intersection. 16 people (10 players, 2 coaches, and 4 team staff members) were killed, along with 13 other players severely injured.
the memory of the humboldt broncos crash is an incredibly sensitive subject carrying a lot of trauma to both the survivors, their families, and deceased's families. the trajectory of hockey in canada was changed significantly after this tragedy.
despite this, netflix has decided to make a show using the death of young hockey players for profit. they did not consult the survivors, nor the deceased's families. they stole a canadian story for a feel-good cash grab.
i understand wanting to watch shows about hockey, but this is not the show to watch. do not give it attention, as the humboldt broncos' memories deserve to be theirs and theirs alone to share.
This is how Netflix advertises the show btw⌠Theyâre calling it âyour new hockey obsessionâ. Itâs disgusting.
One of the kids on the Broncos lived on my block. A coworker lost her brother in law. This tragedy was widely felt in Canada as a whole - flags at half-mast level.
None of the families even knew about this show until the media started asking how they felt.
It is taking a tragedy and turning it into a cash cow.
This was such a deeply-felt issue that even the truck driver pleaded guilty and has tried to make amends. (And as he is facing deportation after his sentence, some of the families have even started supporting him being allowed to stay in the country.) There is a real story you could be telling about community and resilience that is not just turning one of the worst days for THE NATION into cheap thrills and sensationalism.
Don't watch. Don't tweet. Pretend this show does not exist.

i see yâall with your âsteven goes to work at the mystery shackâ headcanons and iâve just gotta say⌠he would absolutely be the sketchiest person in gravity falls
the 2nd gravity falls summer (bc you know there would be more than one) the mystery is âwhat the fuck is wrong with this traumatized pink teenagerâ instead of âwho is the author of the journalsâÂ
with such great hits asÂ
mabel (upon seeing stevenâs gem): youâre PERMANENTLY BEDAZZLED?????
dipper: ugh gideonâs the worst
steven: oh yeah I hate it when your friends try to kill you, but you just gotta wait it out and be patient with them and theyâll come around to you eventually
dipper: what. the fuck.
the kids repainting the sign when mabel drops her paintbrush to the ground by accident, cue steven being like ânp iâll get itâ and walking straight off the edge of the roofÂ
mabel: i hate that picture of me, 4th gradeâs the worst
steven: haha yeahâŚgradesâŚthose exist⌠i definitely didnât look exactly the same from ages 8 to 14 for complicated shapeshifting reasons
âour grunkle stan is kind of a sketchy guyâ âoh no way most of my family are war criminalsâ
steven: *breaks a cup* aw shit *licks it and it seals back together*Â
dipper: *furiously taking notes*
theres no possible way that steven âhavenât you noticed Iâm a starâ universe doesnât come over to mabelâs slumber parties w/ candy and grenda and casually mention his girlfriend who a. is literally a knight in shining armor, b. has taken down multiple genocidal dictators thousands of times her size, not to mention c. mastering the art of swordfighting when she was twelve and d. saving his life and the lives of all the beach city residents on a regular basis
dipper: *trying to reach something on a high shelf*
steven: oh here you go *shapeshifts his arm to grab it and bring it down*
dipper: ??????thanks??
playing w/ waddles and nonchalantly saying something about missing his own large, pink pet, a magical lion that can teleport and that he has ridden into battle multiple times
(at suzyâs diner) steven: donât worry, iâll get the billÂ
various pines: thanks man
steven: itâs cool, my dadâs a millionaire
dipper:
itâs honestly the funniest fucking thing to imagine steven outright not even PRETENDING to hide any of the unusual parts of himself, but dipper still acting as if itâs all some giant conspiracy heâs going to crack by the end of summer.
mabel:Â âdipper, stop being such a dummy-dumb, he literally TOLD us that heâs half gem on his motherâs side!â
dipper, chewing furiously on his pen:Â âyeah, but what does that MEAN???â
steven: Oh my mom used to be an alien overlord sent to earth to drain it of its resources. But she didnt want to so she lead a rebellion against my aunts and grandma which i had to finish a couple years Grunkle Ford: huh, so thats what happened to the gem authority
The implication that Ford knows exactly what Steven is and just left Dipper to obsess over it anyway is gold
you have to get this piercing!
Do you like it?
I have it!
Yes!
yes but I wouldn't get it
No
Wouldn't be worth it

âWe need a robust impersonal state-sponsored safety net for the elderly, disabled, and mentally ill, because not even severely antisocial people should be left on their own to dieâ is a statement that i agree with. But itâs an issue i think people tend to oversimplify, because well. caring for insane bigoted old people sucks ass
When people invoke this sentiment, i think they often make the same error seen in, say, calls for stronger online content moderation: a lack of consideration for who is going to do this work.
In the US today, around a quarter to a third of aides and caregivers for the elderly are immigrants [1, 2], the vast vast majority of whom are women. (From what I can tell) a major reason for this is that nursing or social work degrees/certification programs provide a straightforward (well, relatively) pathway to citizenship or permanent residency; and many simpler caregiver jobs only require a high school diploma, which is useful for immigrants in the US who may not be able to attend college. While I'm sure many of these workers have a sincere passion for caregiving, in a world without severe immigration restrictions and these obvious pipelines the numbers would not be this skewed. I do not think most of these people would put these careers as their first choice.
For starters, they do not pay very much. Average base salary on Indeed for caregiver jobs was $16.83 an hour. For seconders, how often have you had to deal with older relatives making sexist, racist, or otherwise uncomfortable comments at family gatherings? Frankly, lot of old people suck to be around! So do a lot of mentally ill people! Mentally ill old people (so, a lot of the ones receiving home care or living in facilities) can extra suck to be around!! Sexual harassment, violence, and abuse towards workers is common in home care and facilities. [1, 2, 3]. Many caregivers of color experience racism from coworkers, patients, or patients families. Now, many of these people are not fully in control of their thoughts or actions (hence why they require care). And even if they were, being a racist abusive serial harasser doesn't mean somebody deserves to be tortured or medically neglected or left to die.
But we aren't talking about abstract hypotheticals and who "deserves" what. We are talking about real people. When people say things like "the worst person you know still deserves care", it feels like they are expecting the care provider to just manifest out of the ether, and be willing to do whatever is needed without complaint. How much money would someone have to pay you to visit your shittiest relatives for eight hours a day? How long do you think you could retain a warm, kind bedside manner while being sexually harassed, called slurs, or physically assaulted? A week? A month? This is what providing care for the elderly, disabled, and mentally ill can entail, and this is what needs to be addressed if we want to prevent abuse and neglect of patients.
I feel like i didn't connect the first and the second two paragraphs very well... my point in bringing up demographics was that
1- most of the people in caregiver jobs currently are not people who can really have their pick of whatever careers they desire. This is relevant because people often bring up "care provided for people who need it regardless of their sociability" in the context of like, what we as a society should work towards as an ideal. But in an ideal world, how many people would choose the career path of "care for the assholes nobody wants to deal with"?
2- many healthcare workers are nonwhite and experience racial harassment
3- the fact that "who is going to provide this care" seems like an unimportant concern for people reflects how the needs of immigrant workers are often overlooked and invisiblised by those unfamiliar with them. Similar to when people say "We need more content moderation!" without considering the thousands of content moderaters who do exist (mostly in poorer countries) and are being traumatized constantly

had to share this
In every way this is set up to be a joke like any other short video, it even uses the trope of main character in a wig to represent their mom, but it isn't funny at all. It's just sweet and nice
whenever someone calls me and says they're from my bank or car loan company or whatever and asks me security questions, I always tell them "excuse me, you called me, how can you prove who you are" and every single time they act like it's the first time anyone's ever asked that, which absolutely boggles my mind. for the love of fuck please do not answer "security questions" when you didn't initiate the call, at least without making them answer a few first
Never give them your info!
I agree, never give your info in a call you didn't initiate. Phone numbers can be spoofed. They may actually sound like your bank or credit card company.
If you receive a call, hang up and call back using the phone number on their website. Explain that you received a call about X and if it's legit, they'll be able to tell you so. They're also not usually going to get mad if you say "I'm going to hang up and call you back." Scams will though. Because you won't be calling THEM back, you'll be alerting the bank someone is committing fraud in their name. So they'll get urgent about it. Ignore them and hang up. Call back on an actual line.
I once got a security call from my bank
Without saying a word, I hung up, looked up my bank's number and rang them
It was them, they had actually called me, there were no scammers involved
They're weren't upset in the slightest
You will not get in trouble for being careful đ
