â HE THANKED PARIS FOR FILLING HIS GOBLET with a nod of his head. though it was his own varietal, he still went through the motions of swirling the goblet a bit and taking small, experimental sips of the wine to savor the flavor. âwell, he wouldnât trust me with that sort of information,â he chuckled. âas fond as your father is of my services, he seems to think iâd be a bad influence on you.â not that he blamed parisâ father for assuming the worst. august was sensible and smart enough to keep his night job completely separate from his day job, so he just came across as an easy-going wine merchant and wealthy socialite to the general public. âbut here you are,â he said, raising his glass to gently clink against the elfâs. the vampire chuckled a bit, fangs showing briefly as he did. âyouâre very trusting of me for a politician.â he grinned softly, his hazel eyes seeming to glower blue for a second as his gaze traced the bend of parisâ shoulder and neck.
Paris tilted his head with a soft smile on his lips as it was brought up his father would divulge such information and him being a bad influence. âMy father is my father, he probably thinks anyone from here is a bad influence.â He hummed before taking another sip of his wine. He happily cheered his goblet with August, chuckling softly. The male was nice company and he didnât see a reason to deny himself it. âIndeed I am.â He laughed taking a longer sip of the fine drink. He stepped closer as his own trust was brought up. âYou assume I trust you so much? Iâve merely divulged common knowledge. Itâs no secret my disdain for the more beastial species. But you donât have my trust August, just my attention.â He corrected as he ran a hand along the fabric of the vampires shirt. It was true he was fond of August, and he even had a confidential business proposal for him. But the young elf was wise enough to not quite trust the vampire yet. âThat blue in your eyes always so divine. Iâve seen it on others, but in you itâs much better.â
â THE VAMPIRE TOOK THE GOBLET THAT was handed to him with a nod of thanks. âiâm sure there have,â he chuckled. it wasnât hard to imagine that paris would be popular among the older politicians, because there were hardly any young individuals that were so active in that field for anyone to take note of. âyour father seemed interested in that, the last i spoke with him,â he mentioned. the elder rosenthal had spoken to august briefly about his sonâs future, mostly about what species he thought an arranged marriage could benefit them. that had been a while back. âbut iâm relieved, i wouldnât have wanted to overextend,â he said, subtly hinting at his own, selfish interest in the elf. âwhat kind of pet were you thinking of?â he asked, grazing his fingertips over some of the items on display. âa half-elf?â
Paris uncorked the bottle of wine, filling both his goblet and Augustâs. He chuckled as his father was brought up. âFor the sake of solidarity he wouldnât say this, but Iâm certain he would prefer I marry some elven princess and give him grandchildren. But Iâm curious as to what he said would be suitable for me. Not that I am picky in that regard, as long as it isnât one of those lesser races that somehow got on the council.â He purred before taking a sip of the wine and humming happily at the distinct flavours. It was rare that he drank spirits for the sake of drinking them. It was usually to tell if they had been altered. âOverextended hmmm? And what would qualify for that, August?â He asked as he stepped closer to the vampire, his eyes looking directly at the vampire. He though quickly chuckled and smiled at the talk of pets. âRace isnât really a concern, more what can they do? I need pets who will be loyal to me, and who can handle the games these politicians and magisters play. And if they can scratch the itches I have all the better.â
â AUGUST COULDNâT HELP BUT STARE A BIT at the young elfâs lack of dress, feeling that he might have overdressed for this occasion. he had only assumed with a political background and a father who stressed the importance of public image that paris would dress a bit more⌠decently, but august much preferred this look. âwhile it would be polite for me to gift you blood wine if you were a vampire⌠i think this would be a bit more appropriate,â the vampire chuckled, shrugging off his coat and handing it to the servant who obliged to take his clothes. he still dressed darkly and wore one or two thin layers underneath, but the fabric clung to his toned body. âwell,â he said for lack of a better word as he followed paris into his parlour. âiâve been meaning to take time away from them. make new friends,â he chuckled as he looked around, admiring what the elf had done to his place. âyou must be quite the socialite. no⌠wife or husband around?â
Paris took advantage of his youth and his beauty, using it as a weapon. Being so young and involving himself in politics, this garnered attention in a way he could control. âDefinitely the better option for tonight. Blood wine is more ritualistic with some clans, mine included. But tonightâs choice is quite appropriate.â He agreed as he grabbed to goblets, both with clearly elven design. The young elf waved away any servants, the last one shutting the doors of the parlour behind them. âI still have yet to decide on a pet of my own. They need to be perfectly suited.â He remarked as he handed August his goblet, a warm grin on the younger males lips. âNo, a wedding now wonât benefit me. Iâm saving that for later. But their have been those interested.â
â âTHANK YOU FOR INVITING ME, I COULD REALLY use the leisure,â august said. he had been so stressed lately, accommodating a new pet into his home, and tending after both ethan and elliot on top of that. he needed time away, or at least some time with other elites that werenât so taxing on his sanity. once inside the elfâs home, he offered his host a bottle of wine wrapped in a velvety pouch. âmy best varietal,â he said. âi hope itâs to your liking.â he was in the business for blood wine mostly, since most of his clientele were other vampires, but he still produced milder, fruitier wines for species that werenât so keen on the taste of blood. he still felt it odd to meet in these circumstances, when august was dressed well, and not splattered with blood.

Paris had met the vampire at the door in the sheer robe of his, the see-through golden fabric the only thing he wore aside from the tight fitting briefs. It was a comman garb of his to wear, particularly when entertaining guests. He smiled warmly as August entered his home, handing him the fine wine. "I wish I could say this meeting would be all leisure, but for tonight that is all it will be." He mused as the staff of his home shut the doors behind August. He held the bottle carefully, running his fingers over the neck of it. "Oh it always is. Just as your blood wine is my favourite before a fight." He reassured the male before leading them towards the parlour. "How are your pets doing?" He asked curiously. He was curious what kind of master August was with pets he had, how he treated them, and how they reacted to him.

â DEAN WAS NOT A SEASONED FIGHTER, nor had he ever had to fight for his life, but he was a survivor. he adapted and rose to every occasion, and somehowâin spite of everythingâhe managed to live every time he did something reckless. even as he was sorely outmatched, he fought the goblins with bare fists and anything he could pick up. he smashed their skulls in with stones, and blocked their heavy blows with the shields he picked off the ground. it was times like these that he was grateful for being half-wolf because that extra strain of strength made every punch do a bit more damage than it should. he thought he was doing pretty well until he faltered. the pain was slow to enter his body, but when it finally registered, dean turned his head and found the spearhead of a lance sticking straight out of his shoulder, the attacker likely behind him. he gasped, his hands grabbing the spearhead with a pained cry to try and pull it out of his body forward, failing to do much else but bleed out.
Paris had been clearing out an exit for himself, weeding out the goblins that would block his easiest escape route. He had run quite low on arrows and found himself using his sword instead. It's elven metal slicing and gliding through the flesh of the goblins. He soon came upon a pet that seemed to be holding his own, Paris slowly making his way through the mass of goblins. When he had finally made it to the pet, he could see the injured shoulder. The elf drove his blade through the goblin behind the pet, before punching another goblin with his gauntlet covered hand. Leaving his blade buried in the dead goblin, he grabbed the dazed gauntlet with his metal-clawed hands. Using the clawed tips of his gauntlets, he gripped both upper and lower jaw of the goblin. With a growl he pulled the jaws apart, flesh ripping and the goblin shrieking. He didn't pull the jaw clean off, lacking the strength to do so, but it went far past it being naturally able. The shrieking waned as shock and blood loss killed the goblin, Paris wiping the blood from his gauntlets. He could see the spear head and sighed. "Leave it for now, pet. You need to get away from here, can you move alright?"
â AUGUST COULDNâT HELP BUT CHUCKLE AT parisâ praise, knowing it was more of a good-natured tease than anything said with sincerity. he looked towards the chaos ahead, knowing why many elites were choosing to flee rather than stay and fight for a lost cause. âgoblins are strong in numbers, and their hive mind is unbeatable. weâre too scattered, there is no organization among the different species, and it makes us vulnerable to them. once we get overwhelmed by their numbers, itâll be easy picking,â he explained. âthis is their natural terrain. high trees, dense cover.â he cleaned one of his daggers off. âbut if you insist to clean up, iâll help you. iâm sure your father would like you to come home in one piece.â
Paris listened to August explain why the elite's were fleeing as such. It was frustrating to see the battle going as such and he groaned as he began to contemplate a plan a least. It was true that goblins were known for acting as whole, swarming their foes. "Hive minds aren't unbeatable, if they can be disrupted. Is their usually a goblin that acts as a main conduit, like the queen in a beehive?" He asked the assassin as they paused for a moment. It was true they definitely were at a disadvantage with the trees for the goblins. "I don't necessarily insist, but I do believe their is still a contribution we can make to this. We need to find your pets regardless." He theorized trying to better understand the situation at hand.
Noah was pissed off. Not because he was a bleeding heart who was worried about the pets - they could be replaced - but because the goblins were invading his territory. Not to mention, since they were eating anyone they could get their hands on, they were endangering his pack and that was something the wolf didnât take lightly. Fiercely loyal to his packmates and particularly to his Alpha, he was taking delight in tearing goblins to shreds.Â
Spotting a goblin pinning someone down, he leaped to action, taking the creatureâs head in his jaws as he ripped it off the other - the strength of the action tearing the goblinâs head from itâs body. He didnât care who heâd saved unless it was pack, just happy to leave a path of goblinâs destruction in his wake.
Paris was rarely one to get outwitted, but in battles it was a little different. He had been outnumbered greatly by pack of goblins, and been able to dispatch all but one. He had ran out of arrows, and went to pull his sword when the goblin had pinned him. His armor offered a bit of protection but if he didn't think quick he'd be dead. Thankfully, it seemed someone else wanted the goblin dead and he found himself being saved by a wolf. Standing up, he watched with a smirk as the last of the pack of goblins was killed, the young elf picking up a few of his arrows. "Thank you, I owe you one."
â THE VAMPIRE COULDNâT HELP BUT ADMIRE the elf in some way, simply because it was rare to encounter an adept warrior who was also knowledgeable in politics. though august mainly did business with parisâ father, he found himself wanting to work more closely with paris instead. he glanced at the area where he had been injured last, and found barely a mark there, the flesh having healed up quickly. âhealed,â he sighed out, trying to ignore the fact that his entire body still ached from the werewolf venom in his system. âiâd suggest you donât go any further if youâd prefer to not be close-range,â he said, looking out where many elites were still fleeing from.Â
Paris was content to hear that his current battle companion had healed from his wound. While goblins werenât the smartest they knew enough with poison and potion making from what he had read. âGood, Iâd hate to tell my father how the Great August was brought down by a goblin.â He teased as he continued onward with the vampire. When he was recommended to turn back as well, he shook his head. âIf I did everything I prefer I wouldnât get much done. If they ever close enough I can handle myself, if.â He reminded the other, affirming he wasnât about to leave. He though wondwr d what would cause so many elites to be fleeing. He though trusted in his sword, or to be more accurate, the eleven tehnology within his sword. âWhat would be causing so many to flee, August?â

â AUGUST COULDNâT SAY HE WAS PROUD OF having his own pets âmixed upâ in this chaos, but it wasnât like he had known. still, he was best at adapting to emergency situations, having been trained to expect danger at every moment. âso you mean to say, you believe the avians have something to do with this attack?â he asked, stamping his boot on the corpse of a goblin to yank out one of the steel-tipped arrows from its chest. âi wouldnât put it behind them.â avians were manipulative creatures, and august didnât doubt they had earned their title as pirates for a reason no more noble than thieves did. âtheyâre not far,â he said. he smelled elliot and jake close by. most of the goblins seemed to have scattered, or were dead in this concentrated area. he glanced at paris. âare you hurt anywhere?â he asked
Paris smirked slightly at August's question, it making sense theoretically that it was the Avians who had orchestrated this. "Well goblins aren't known for their ability to craft opportune strategies. It's far too convenient that they happen to attack our pets just before the tournament." He added as he kept his eyes on their surroundings. Just because they're own intelligence surpassed their foes didn't mean they couldn't still pose a threat. He wasn't one to grow careless, at least usually. "Neither would I, but I also wouldn't put it behind someone trying to capitalize on tensions." He theorized, figuring it to be a valid point. With such thin ice between Avians and aeternum, if someone wanted a war it wouldn't be as hard as usual. When asked about his own health he shook his head. "No, aside from our timber incident I try to refrain from close range. How's your wound?"
The normally cheerful and rather confused Bowen was backed into a corner, growling, his ears flat against his head, blood already smeared over his mouth and his hands, claws dug into the ground and he was hunched on all fours. Anger flashed in those normally warm chocolate colored eyes. As soon as the goblins came for him he knew it was no longer play time. He had killed the first one to come near him, and now itâs companion closed in on him. Clearly distressed, the intent to murder the goblins clear in his eyes.Â
Paris watched curiously from his vantage point in a tree, his razor sharp sight picking up on the pet and the goblins. It seemed the creature was quite capable of defending himself. He appeared human at least at first glance to the elf, and when a second goblin went to strike he released an arrow from his bow, it piercing right through the creatures neck. Paris leaped down from his perch and drew his sword, not wishing to waste more arrows incase more of the horde was in hiding. "Are you alright, pet?" He asked with a firm voice, eyes scanning around for more enemies.
â IN THE MIDDLE OF THEIR CONVERSATION, august retrieved a throwing dagger from his coat and chucked it behind paris, striking a goblin straight between its eyes. it fell with a thud behind the elf just before it had a chance to strike with its axe. âneither was i,â he answered honestly. âiâm only here for my own.â by own he meant his pets. he knew elliot could defend himself or at least find safety somehow but he wasnât so sure about his newest pup, jake. âwhat brings youâhere?â he asked, moving them out of the clearing. âcanât imagine youâd be the type to want your hands dirty, as well.â
Paris smirked towards the vampire as he threw the knife into the goblin behind him. That was the vampire that Paris knew and revered. âYou have pets mixed up in all this?â He asked as plucked a few more arrows. He had no pets, and as of yet none had caught his eye enough worth claiming. Renting they certainly had, but definitely not worth claiming. âDuty. It might be dirt on my hands, but my image will be clean.â He chuckled as he began to follow the older male. The young elf spoke with honesty, his choice to be assisting with the defence was mostly political. âHowever, despite my disdain for this tournamentâs cause, I refuse to sit back while they destroy our property.â He added as he stepped out into the clearing, his eyes scanning the area for signs of life. His only real goal was to assist, so for now he could move as he wished. âWhere were your pets last seen?â
When a sudden presence moved near them, Matiasâ started to lunge with his sword, finding a man in heavy armor standing there instead. He followed the arrows to their targets. The man had a deadly arm, all three arrows hitting their targets easily. He winced as he turned back, shoving his sword into the other petâs hand, finding one on the ground just inside the tent. He tested its weight before turning back to the elite.
âIâll heal. But we need to get out of here.â Specifically, he eyed the pet next to him awkwardly holding the sword that was obviously too big for him. At his question, Matias pushed up off the ground and brought the pet with him. âWe can.â He nodded, continuing to monitor their horizons as he watched the man for his next direction.
Paris had noticed how the armed pet seemed to almost lunge at him, and he was ready to side step out of the way. His armor may have looked heavy, but the lightweight metal that was used for it made mobility still quite capable. Removing the arrows that were still intact he listened to the male explain that he would heal and reaffirm their need to leave. âGood, weâll head towards the tower. Their will be more guards there and less goblins.â He theorized as he watched the one pet struggle to hold the sword. He took a dagger from his belt and tossed it to the pet. âDonât bother with a sword you canât hold. Stay between myself and your saviour there.â He commanded before beginning to lead the way.
Paris would have moved faster on his own, but he wasnât going to leave the two pets on their own. His bow was ready in the event enemies would cross their path. âMy name is Paris Rosenthal. What are your names?â He asked as he shot an arrow into the back of a lone goblins head.
HE DIDNâT DOUBT FOR A SECOND that the elf knew what he was doing, so august maneuvered himself to stay out of harmâs way. once the tree was down, crushing the goblins beneath it, and scattering the rest, he let the tension bleed out of his shoulders. there were still many goblins heading their way, but the threat had been decimated enough for him to catch his breath. august cleaned off his blade against the side of his forearm guard, and looked to paris. âi canât see why heâd need my help,â he said, mostly to praise the elfâs skills. if parisâ father had a son as skilled in battle as paris was, the vampire questioned why the man needed his services at all. âyouâre paris,â he said, prying his broadsword out of the lifeless body of a goblin, his boot stamped against it to hold it down as he did. âiâve heard about you.â
Paris looked at the fallen tree and the scattered goblins. It was unfortunate that such a large tree had to be lost to destroy such pitiful beasts. He chuckled at Augustâs words about his father. âYes but when was the last time you saw my father actually get his hands dirty.â Paris stated as he collected the arrows that he could from the goblins. He had a sword, but if he could use his bow heâd be better off. âYes, youâd be correct. Youâve almost seen me a few times as well.â He commented watching the vampire remove the broadsword from the goblin. He had on more than one occasion eavesdropped and watched in on his fatherâs affairs. âI must admit I wasnât expecting to see you out here in the middle of the fray.â

A young elf was not something he had expected. Erik had naturally assumed that they were all much, much older than he was. He watched the other as he introduced himself, nodding at him in greeting. At his assumption, Erik simply nodded. âAs of right now.â BEing claimed wasnât something that Erik strove for, he felt as though he had no need for that to happen. As far as he was concerned, he could be unclaimed for the rest of his life and be just as content. But he wanted to be utilized and he was no use rotting away in a cell.Â
Paris smiled slightly as his guess was confirmed to be corrrect. It was no surprise that their were so many unclaimed pets, especially in a time like this. He ran his hand through his hair before lighting up. âWell if youâre unclaimed and youâre as good as a fighter as you say you are, why not show me. I have a fully stocked armoury, so you can have access to that for training.â He suggested to the pet. He was curious to find a champion for the tournament even if he wasnât fond of the circumstances of it. âYouâd alps have privacy away from all the other pets as well.â
AUGUST WASNâT USED TO WORKING with other people that werenât his own pets but since the elf sounded like he knew what he was doing, the vampire decided to follow, but not blindly. he knew what the elf was attempting and it was the best chance they had at clearing out many of them at once. bolstered by his superhuman speed, he picked up daggers and anything he could throw to hit the goblins with surprising accuracy, shaving off the ones that crawled up the sides. noticing that the other male was running low, he yanked a few arrows free from the corpses on the ground and tossed them up to paris, just enough so he could take out the rest closing in.
Paris kept up with the few arrows he had, trying to funnel the climbing goblins. He was happy though that August had caught onto his plan and was helping funnel them as well. When the vampire threw up extra arrows, he caught them, picked off a few of the goblins getting too close. He could hear and feel the way the tree was creaking and beginning to buckle from the weight of so many goblins climbing it's trunk. The tree jerked forward, Paris clawed gauntlets keeping him firm. Theirnjust needed to be a little more weight, just a dozen or so more goblins.
Paris climbed a few branches higher, keeping out of reach of the goblins. He heard a large snap, knowing that was his que. He leaped back to a branch and launched his grappling hook tonthe other tree. Swinging from it he descended to the forest floor, the tree falling forward, crushing the swarm of goblins on it and infront of it. The elf sighed as he looked over at August, a slight smile on his face. "I can see why my father does so much business with you."
