okay, so everyone is getting mad about “fake systems”, but i think the issue is that they are misunderstanding the actual definition of “head mates” and “fronting”? it seems like some people think they are synonymous with kin shifts/personality shifts when that isn’t the case.
a head mate isn’t a kintype. head mates are entirely separate consciousnesses that have their own thoughts and feelings. they are like more than one person living inside one body, so they take turns fronting and being in control. and someone will need to have gone through childhood trauma at a young age for their psyche to be split like this. it’s pretty impossible for it to just happen on it’s own, or for someone to be born with their head mates already existing.
people are able to have bpd and did/ddnos at the same time and people can experience dissociation without having a system (there’s more than one “type” of dissociation) but identity issues and system members are NOT the same thing.
It’s possible to have a system without having DID. It also takes years to get diagnosed with DID so there can be unlabeled systems who still label themselves as systems.
The term head mate is a term describing another person in your head. Soulbonds who are part of systems are still completely separate entities and work like system members. We aren’t mistaking who we are for kintypes.
i never said anything about soul bonds, and i'm aware of them but i wouldn't group them in with systems and alters. i'm aware that 'head mate' is a more neutral term, so i guess that's okay.
but actual people with did/ddnos are getting mad about this because they went through real trauma and that's why they have alters.
