He had noticed a slight change across Saga’s expression, but did not quite expect that kind of reaction. The fact the Gemini remained being a codified book to him was more than frustrating. Even if now, as things were, there was no reason for him to worry about it.
Saga’s action made Aphrodite place his arms against the other’s chest for balance when he was pulled closer, and the hand at his neck did not quite bother him, albeit it did catch him off guard. He had held back a gasp, and despite the anxiety he felt within him due to the uncertainty of Saga’s actions, the following compliment still managed to make him feel warm inside - and the evident proximity didn’t help at all.
His statement made Aphrodite glance downwards; he should have known better than try to conceal the truth, but he had his reasons. He didn’t think Saga minded enough to go farther to dig it from him.
“My pride was torn into pieces,” his voice was low and calm, and he remained looking away for a little longer. “And what remained from it has to comply with being ruled by a little girl that knows little about anything, for she’s Athena and there’s no questioning about it.”
Aphrodite’s fingers closed lightly around Saga’s wrist without any intention to pull his arm and hand away from his neck. And when their gaze met again, he seemed to search for something in the hues of Saga’s eyes, though he didn’t exactly know what was it himself. Perhaps comprehension, understanding.
“This situation bothers me, it frustrates me.” He wasn’t used to admit his emotions in such a manner, but he had been requested to. Once more, he looked away. It was difficult to speak looking into Saga’s eyes at such proximity.
“Regarding my previous, superficial answer, I still stand by it. It’s the truth, it’s how I feel. Even if only a small portion of it.”
Saga's fingers tightened imperceptibly at Aphrodite's words. It felt like there was something twisting in his chest.
"Yes. That's right," The words came unbidden. "Everything has been torn down, and must be built again from the ground up-- even my pride. They've turned on me, made me the enemy, dressed me in the colors of the Underworld, and yet everything that I've done was for--"
You've gone too far. The more he spoke, the more he seemed to have been raising his voice. This was something unbecoming. He closed his eyes for a moment, letting Aphrodite go, settling himself back and away in more than one sense of the word.
"... There's no questioning it," he repeated Aphrodite's words, his voice lowered much more from before, when he opened his eyes again. "You and I will believe in that girl's justice now, regardless of this situation. I don't want to hear otherwise from you again... It won’t do either of us any good." What could he even do with such sentiments?
