What is your take on "Less is more" and "Show, don't tell" when applying them to character designing?

I think this can make for really great designs.. if your know your anatomy of whatever it may be and can pinpoint key features with less lines and in a more abstract and minimal way then you can make something really beautiful.. like the more you can reveal with the least amount of lines possible is what looks the most interesting to me!
