               he dramatically poses for a moment. ❝ what?! me?! when did i grow another pair of limbs? ❞ he snorts a laugh after his bit of mockery, fanning the smoke away from his face. ❝ aw, you hurt me, piper. here i thought i could have a nice conversation for once. ❞ he gives her a fake pout, then folds his arms. ❝ but i guesssssss that only happens with nice people. psh – ❞ in way, deacon loved messing with her a bit. all and all, she was a pretty good sport about it, to which why it keeps happening.

Eyebrows furrowed, pulling together for a moment as he looked out the window. He has not been here that long, has he? It was almost as if everything went straight to hell right after he came through – luckily enough he got here when he did then. Yet, that still did not explain the gap in memory he had, but it was nothing he should worry about. Not yet, at least. There will be answers to be given in due time. Right now, there were more pressing matters to be attended to as he propped the barrel of his gun to fit between the door and side-view mirror.

“Sounds like they are preparing for something bigger than I thought,” Arthur mused with a quiet hum to his voice. Roadblocks meant one thing, the total militant attitudes of the people within the town meant something completely different. A war to be had, but against who? Those within the community that did not follow this cult into their own ideas of the world ending soon? To say the least, he did not think he would be shoved back into a war so soon. Arthur did not want to think on that either, but that was harder to ignore. 

Breathe and worry about the damage later, focus on getting Piper out alive. Still, the idea of them taking her things, but also where it is, he was starting to think that before they could sneak out, that would be on the list of things to do. Lips pressed together for a moment in thought, but he offered nothing in response for a moment.

“Keep steady and tell me all of what you know of these people then,” Arthur said as he peered out ahead of them. Her not going the main road was noted, that is why when he climbed to sit on the door, his leg wrapped around the seat belt so he would not be jostled out. Reasons for this change of his position? He knew the colors of the cult: white with a black cross, and they were coming upon a group of them fast. Never did he like taking a life; but sometimes one needed to do so. Thus, he aimed and inhaled deeply to steady his grip before shooting out the tires of the approaching truck. The peggies, as they were so called, lost control of their truck immediately and veered off the road, slamming nose first into a tree.

        Though Piper is heavily concentrated in driving and not crashing into a random fucking bear or a suicidal Peggy, she’s listening to what he’s saying and nodding because he’s right. Their leader-- Joseph, she thinks-- is completely determined to believe the world is going to end soon. It’s another Doomsday cult, except this one is much more powerful than your typical, run of the mill ones. They’re organized, armed, and dangerous and willing to kill for their beliefs. 

        “Yeah, they are. It’s terrorism. You’re going to have to get your boys involved, maybe that’ll bring actual help to the people here,” she says quickly, making it obvious that she doesn’t plan to leave things just the way they are. She’s never been a bystander, but she knows she alone can’t help the citizens of Hope County. The only thing she can do is make sure people learn about the terrible shit happening here so they can become enraged and want to help. Then again, people are so numb to acts of cruelty nowadays, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t going to try.

        Piper barely flinches at the heavy sound of gunfire right behind her, grateful he has such great aim. Definitely better than her’s. The third day after she arrived, she had to shoot at two people. Missed a whole bunch of times, yeah, but ended up killing them both. Her first time killing, but it hasn’t really processed in her mind yet. Adrenaline tends to shut off trauma and fear and most rational thinking. She’ll feel it all later once they’re safe, that’s for sure. 

        “I know you’ve got more training than most of ‘em. Also know they won’t stop until they achieve whatever their leader tells them to do.” Luckily for the both of them, they arrive at the hidden off cabin quickly and relatively safely. She parks it nearby and shuts off the car, making sure to tuck the keys into her jeans. “Let’s get inside,” she breathes out, biting back a wince when she steps out. It’s a good thing her foster dad, Nick, taught her a thing or two about hacking (though he encouraged her never to use it for revenge-aimed reasons), which is why she was able to get into the code-locked bunker in the first place. She presses in the numbers and steps in with him, bolting the entrance shut and descending down the ladder. Inside, there’s an array of canned food, purified water, ammo, books and a bed. It’s clear whoever designed this place was planning to camp in here for a while.
