Some digital color tests I did for the background designs of Solomon’s film - Wastemen.

For this project I worked with both Solomon (Wastemen) and Nicole (Tuliopia).

Nicole was the person I was initially assigned to work with and she mainly wanted me to do backgrounds for her. In terms of communication she was not able to come to uni, so we mainly contacted each other through Messenger and e-mail. She was pretty straight forward in terms of what she wanted. She gave me a lot of freedom with me creating the color pallettes, style and brushes. Initially she  would send me rough digital sketches of the different backgrounds and allowed me to make minor changes in the composition in terms of perspective or size change of the object. I was following her sketch, but creating the line art almost from scratch and adding little details where it seemed suiatble (as she suggested I could do that if I would like to)

I also did some work on Solomon’s film. He is working traditionally on cel sheets. That was definitely a new experience for me, but also something I came back to, as we are painting the cels with acrylics and I have experience with traditional painting. I mainly did painting and coloring for him, as well as a little bit of line art. We would arrange days (since I was not the only assistant he had), in which we would all meet up at the studio and work together on the different things we needed to get done for the day, so that created a nice almost like a proffessional studio environment.
