General Introduction (no i will not be making this look better)
Hi, if you're here from my twt or my tt (both under @/pan_phuong) then hellooooo :) I'm trying to switch platforms and focus more on Tumblr
I'm probably still going to be active on twt anyways, so if you'd rather int with me on twt rather thn on tumblr thn today is ur lucky day! Do note that even though this is an art account, I don't like drawing 90% of the time. But I hate NOT drawing more so here I am. Chances of me actually uploading art instead of rambles is very unlikely
please read my carrd to know a bit more about me!
To my IRLs, Pan/Phuong is just my online alias okay please call me by my actual name
If you don't want to open shady links, as of the moment of writing this, here's a tldr;
I'm Pan/Phuong/Vulpes (all names work) and I use they/its, please use gender-neutral terms. My timezone is EST and I am an adult (18).
I have a short social battery, please do not try and expect to hold a long conversation with me. I also struggle really badly to understand social cues out of the blue. If I ask you to clarify a joke or something similar, I am not pulling your leg. I am being serious.
uhhhhh you can request art or ask stuff but I doubt that I'll really do much. Sorry I'm pan and I'm a lazy fart

awesome work in progress for arguably probably rhe worst arg ive ever watched so far. watch something is knocking at your door guys its so bad that its good
i dont think people truly grasp the idea that america from its very beginning was built in a way that makes it fundamentally impossible to redeem. the myth of the ''american dream'' depends on someone else being exploited, displaced, or harmed. there is no version of success within that system that does not come at a cost to someone else, often someone with less power.
this is not a temporary flaw or a series of bad decisions that can be corrected over time, it is structural and it is foundational. the system is not a broken version of something better, it is functioning exactly as it was designed to function. expecting it to suddenly produce justice or equality ignores the reality of how and why it was created.
political participation, especially within the narrow limits of electoral politics does not meaningfully challenge this foundation. choosing between candidates who operate within the same system does not alter the system itself. it reinforces the idea that small adjustments are enough and that progress can happen without confronting the underlying structure.
people often ask what is wrong with america, why it behaves the way it does, why exploitation and violence seem so persistent, and the answer is that these outcomes are not accidents. they are consistent with the country's origins in colonization, slavery, and imperial expansion. those patterns have not disappeared, they have evolved and adapted.
there is also a reason why so many people feel exhausted, disengaged, or unable to imagine alternatives. capitalism benefits when people are too overwhelmed to resist or even to question what is happening. economic pressure, constant stress, and limited time all contribute to maintaining that condition.
capitalism, as it operates, is not failing. it is producing exactly what it is meant to produce, concentration of wealth, inequality, and dependence. the belief that it can be reformed into something fair without fundamentally changing its structure keeps people invested in a system that continues to harm them.
the idea that america can simply be ''fixed'' rests on the assumption that its core is sound. if the foundation itself is built on exploitation and domination, then surface level reforms will not address the deeper issue. continuing to believe in those reforms can delay more honest conversations about what real change would require.
the real danger of capitalism is not that it will fail, it's that it will succeed completely.

Campaign UpdateΒ
Iβm writing this to explain our situation in Gaza as clearly and honestly as possible, without exaggeration.
Right now, daily life is unstable in every aspect. There is no reliable access to electricity. When it is available, itβs only for short and unpredictable periods. Charging phones or using basic devices has become difficult, which also limits communication and access to information.
Water is a constant concern. Clean drinking water is not always available, and when we find it, we have to store and use it very carefully. In many cases, people rely on limited or unsafe sources. This directly affects health, especially for children.
Food is also limited. There is no normal access to markets or regular supplies. Meals are simple and often not enough. People are not choosing what to eat they are taking whatever is available just to get through the day.
Housing is one of the biggest challenges. Many families, including ours, are no longer living in proper homes. Instead, they stay in temporary shelters or tents. These conditions are difficult: high temperatures during the day, cold at night, no real protection, and no privacy. Sleeping is irregular, and rest is limited.
Healthcare is extremely hard to access. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and basic medical supplies are not always available. Even minor health issues can become serious because treatment is delayed or unavailable.
There is also continuous psychological pressure. The uncertainty is constant. People do not know what will happen next, where they might have to move, or how conditions will change. This affects both adults and children on a daily basis.
This campaign is for Anasβ family. The goal is simple: to secure basic needs like food, water, and safer temporary shelter. There is no unnecessary request here only essential support to get through this situation.
Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a real difference in covering these needs.
If you can help, please consider donating. If you canβt, sharing this may help reach someone who can.
I will not let anyone forget about it just because itβs not trending. If you can offer anything, it means so much. Please be kind to one another as always.
Love is the only thing worth giving to one another and war destroys it.

I've been following you for a while now and I wanted to pay compliments for how your art looks omg it's so stunning. You've been a inspiration for me.
I do have a question tho how did you learn do coloring/rendering process?
I've been trying to get better at mine but it's been a lot of error on top of error π
You don't have to answer but again I really do like how your art look!
Thank you everyone!!! coloring is a bit of a complex topic, so I'll try to cover the essentials of my process where I can!
TLDR: save photos/art you like, study them, even color pick from them to help develop your palette for whatever piece you're working on. HOWEVER know the basics of value scaling and be able to mix your own colors/understand what situations they are in.
THIS THING IS LONG SORRY
Firstly is understanding value, or the greyscale of your intended subject. You need to be able to push your focus (also called a focal point) somewhere and keep it visually clean - this makes it easier for when you move into color, so you have a starting point of where you want your lightest or darkest colors. Here's an example from my college homework days using a character design:
with this design, i ended up going with the bottom far right. the patterns where fun, but they were too busy and drawing too much attention away from my intended focal point, her face. the top 1st and 3rd could've also worked, it was just a taste thing lol
something to note - i'm not using a true black or a true white. true white or black isn't accurate to the actual values of colors - you can use something like a light pink, but itβs going to be darker than true white, y'know? also like. for the same reasons don't work on a pure white canvas. the moment you start working on a non white canvas and get used to surrounding your character in value, it's only up from there lol
Also keep in mind i'm designing this character with her skin color's value AND the paper's value in mind. you know how new or lazy artists tend to say they just cant make a character with a dark skin color work with a design? they probably didn't even consider this. they work on a titanium white canvas and expect it to magically work out lol
Do know that once you really get into the habit of working with color, you most likely won't need to do this all of the time. it's just a helpful tool, and a necessity when you're a designer and you need to crank through dozens of iterations before you can even think about color.
OK COLOR
The method in which i learned how to get good at understanding color is. not going to make you happy lol. I was taught via physically mixing all of my colors from cyan, magenta, yellow, black and white gouache (fancy expensive paint that works like acrylic or watercolor depending on how much water you add), and painting still lives. It was BRUTAL trying to get every color correct, but now i can replicate/mix almost any color I see in my color wheel with pinpoint precision, and the final exam result speaks for itself:
however, because i care about you and don't want you to spend a fortune on paint, here's the easier digital way of doing this: do a master study. take a photo into your art program, and try to paint the photo and recreate the colors using your program's color wheel, all while NOT color picking directly from the photo. you will quickly learn that color is extremely situational and changes depending on what's next to it. for example, your teeth aren't white - they're quite yellow, they just look white bc it's surrounded by pink and red. exact same thing with your eyes.
Now, you may ask "why the fuck did you tell me all of that, i'm confused now and it has nothing to do with palettes!" unfortunately it does. the more you're able to reliably guess or understand what situation a color is in/what it's surrounded by, the better your taste in color palettes become. suddenly you don't depend on titanium white for the schlera of an eye or teeth, or shade with black. you start using shit like desaturated greens and reds and purples for your "white"s. you can use a lot of weird colors for shit, as long as the surrounding colors and values make it FEEL believable to the viewer. If you want an exercise, try color picking this illustration i did. everything in this image reads acceptable, the colors are just crazy lol
Knowing all this shit also prevents you from relying too heavily on filter layers for fixing your colors, or always using them to shade.
Let's take this C00lkidd I threw together and gave some random colors. They donβt make my brain upset so I deem them acceptable. Again, comes from practice.
let's say you wanna make his palette warmer, or he's in a sunset scene. we can use a multiply layer for the effect, and it works ok, but itβs shifted around some of my values around. so beside it, i manually played around with the color wheel to get something similar. i made is skin a little darker so his teeth stood out, choose a different metal color, kept the jacket and shirt in a more similar world to the og, etc
Same situation for a night scene. he's cooler everywhere, but better communicated.
That isn't to say you can't use filters - i use them all the time to tweak my final work/bring my colors a little closer together, BUT they should be treated as a tool, not a crutch.
Now, for actual color palettes and their application to your work:
One of my preferred methods is taking photos with colors i like, throwing it onto my canvas and either color picking or tweaking it for my needs. it's super solid for when you wanna go for the same feeling/mood/aesthetic.
Here's another with the same approach, but i play around with blending and shadows. this is more my "signature style", using more saturated colors, shading and lighting with teals, purples, etc. sometimes i outline with a color or throw random colors in pockets just for flavor. none of the shadows are on multiply layers, they're blended straight into the other colors so i can control their vibrancy. it's very watercolor-ish, just erratic:
I realize like NONE of this was super comprehensive but its hard to sorta summarize like, 1-2 years of study into one explanation lol. just,,, save pictures you like, study em, color pick em, and eventually you'll learn something from trial and error. fail fast, don't get discouraged because it looks like ass, take a breather and try again. use lots and lots of references bc yes, references extend beyond just anatomy.
