Today marks 3 years with Juno 🎉
We celebrated by getting her feet trimmed
My two 2020 projects met for the first time.
These two are proving to be complete opposites
Naila, the haflinger, is brand new and hasn’t had much handling. She’s very shy, but also super smart. She figured out picking up her feet within a day. Very food motivated, which makes things a little easier.
Atlas is an ottb, so he’s started. Very confident and in everyone’s face all the time. Typical big, dumb gelding personality. Just wants to play constantly.
Atlas living his best life
My new project. 5 year old OTTB gelding. I’ve had him for a week and still haven’t come up with a name for him.

Took the kids out on the track for the first time today! Super proud of them. Hawkeye (bay) had his first canter. Fish (chestnut) was very brave, even when some Canadian geese gave her a funny look.
I’m going to have to start bubble wrapping these two
So...my horses are both the worst. About three weeks ago Juno got in a fight. She’s always had problems with other horses. She tends to be a kicker, so she usually only goes with my horses. The barn owner at the barn she was at for the summer decided to add a gelding in with her and my pony. I was like “okay, but not my fault if she beats him up”.
Well she beat him up, unfortunately for me he also managed to get a kick in that got her in the hock. Now I’m dealing with a nasty infection. 50/50 chances of being sound again. Daily bandage changes and stall rest until it heals. So far she’s handling stall rest so much better than I could have expected. I’m also getting really good at hock wraps.
Juno is still on stall rest, antibiotics, and daily bandage changes, so yesterday I’m heading to the barn to deal with her when I get a bunch of frantic texts from my mom. She’s been using Fifty as a companion for her gelding. I don’t see him as often being out there, but it’s a nice ranch with huge grassy fields, so he’s been pretty happy.
My mom told me, through some very vague messages, to call the vet, get out there immediately, and be prepared because it’s awful. So I raced out to the ranch he’s at and she was right it was really bad. I thought for sure I was going to have to have him put down. He tore open his upper right leg and was covered head to toe in superficial cuts.
It looks like wire cuts, but there is nothing for him to get caught on. It’s still a mystery what he did. The only spot we found any blood was a couple of puddles out in an open space. He got super lucky with where he cut. It’s a really muscly spot, and far away from the joints. It should heal well as long as everything goes according to plan. He does have a pretty big pocket on the inside that we have to watch out for, but other than that he should be okay.
Now he’s sporting a fancy vetwrap harness and I’m going to invest in a vet supply store.
Now I’m just waiting for my pony to decide to do something stupid.
Matching bays, Juno and Playgirl, jumping the barrels for the first time.
Gave Hawkeye a dog toy and he quickly turned it into a weapon

Flo has 3 weeks off due to a cut that needed stitches. The best way to get a baby horse back into work is to hop on bareback and in a halter and go film the video for her ad.
We already have the classic flat work and free lunge videos filmed, but I had to show off just how calm she is. Pulled out all the old tricks from my childhood of roaming around town on ponies.
Juno goes more for distance than height when she jumps.
That’s one way to do it

Flo is my most recently retired ottb with about 1.5 months worth of rides post track and is easily the best behaved. On top of being dead calm she’s also extremely good at lateral work, she’s starting to figure out jumping (she’s not the most naturally talented jumper, but she tries her hardest), and she has auto changes.
Flo went from full winter coat to insanely shiny summer coat almost overnight
