Walking through the picturesque streets of Cardinal Hill, you find Evelyn ‘Evie’ Easton, the 32 year old journalist at the Cardinal Chronicle originally from Cardinal Hill, Washington. Living alongside them in such a small town, you know that they're sensible and disciplined, but what you might not know is that they are a human, and that they’re hiding something…
She was born into a typical middle-class household. Evelyn was the oldest of the Easton kids; her younger brothers never quite rose to the occasion like she'd been trained to do. Maybe it was in her blood, but Evie never said no. Whether it was someone to help with the dishes or help the elderly neighbor with their errands, she would be quick to step up to the plate. Life never scared her, especially not the future; she only wanted to dive headfirst into whatever the world had to offer. As a teenager, Evie had a hand in almost everything. From president of the student body to newspaper editor, she had it covered and still seemed to find time to add more extracurriculars. She liked to be busy. While her parents didn't drill in their expectations for their daughter, the girl had her own set that she wanted to make sure nothing stood in the way of. Some of her teachers recommended she move to New York to try to get hired by the Times, while others suggested a prestigious college like Duke. Evie didn't do any of it.
Instead, she stayed in Cardinal Hill, got her degree at a college just out of town, and was swiftly hired by the Cardinal Chronicle after graduation. That's where she got to dig her nails into her work. Evie is known to stay late and be a general workaholic. To her, it doesn't even necessarily feel like work, more of an extension of what she would want to be doing anyway. She'd always been nosy to some extent, which was part of why the girl wanted to be involved in so many activities. Most things she'd say weren't right until she did them herself.
Evie always had a thing for bad boys, as her mom liked to call them. Her high school boyfriend was a deadbeat who smoked weed behind the bleachers instead of going to class. He didn't take it well when she ended things and called him out for being just that. High school was one thing, but once she got into college, there wasn't a point in playing around with a guy who wasn't going anywhere. If only it had been that simple. After running into each other at a bar a year ago, he hasn't been able to let her go, showing up randomly at her house and constantly trying to get her to take him back. Most of the time, she'd just ignore it, thinking he was harmless and she had the situation under control. Until she met Malachai. He'd been just her type, falling into a routine with him before she even knew it.
While normally she was addicted to her work, he seemed to take over ever so slightly. Evie would actually leave on time to be home for a home-cooked meal and discussion on the latest story she was covering. He listened to her, seeing the brain that worked a thousand miles a minute as a relic instead of a threat. A part of her thought this could be it, until one night when everything changed. [ REDACTED ]
The breakup was clean, considering the circumstances, but she shouldn't shake the memories. Maybe it was regret, maybe it was the opposite; she couldn't tell and didn't have the heart to sort it out. Now Evie's stuck somewhere in between and she's not even sure what's right or wrong anymore, just that she's in the middle.
she loves her brothers more than anything and is extremely protective of them.
in highscool evie was student body president, editor of the school newspaper, tennis team captain, and the theatre stage manager, as well as a straight-A student and valedictorian of her graduating class.
evie always has a pen and a pocket notebook with her. she's always lurking around, trying to catch the next story or find something to write an exposé on. she also only writes in pen, refusing to use pencils, thinking that the first thought is usually the best thought.
while she's good at just about everything, she can't cook for shit. in fact, evie eats strictly microwave meals, much to her mother's chagrin. her daughter also has quite the sweet tooth and can be seen with a lollipop in her mouth while hard at work or with a black coffee loaded with sugar.
she's fascinated by the recent events and involvement that the rumored witches may have. while she's never been able to prove it, evie is convinced there's more going on than meets the eye, and she wants to figure it out.
