Russian and Serbian likely speak for themself — Russian is the Commonwealth's official (and most popular) language, and the Tsvetkoviches are Serbian. Milica is well-educated, and a journalist, so it's likely she would learn English at some point for her studies or her work. As for Polish, it's probably also fairly common in the area, as in real life Poland neighbors areas like Belarus and Ukraine where in the PAFL universe we know the Commonwealth has control over.

Katya has been diagnosed with moderate Oppositional Defiant Disorder!

Because the Facility was not intended as a clear allegory for any one thing, it opens itself up to allegory for many things. One way I enjoy reading it is as a critique on the youth psychiatric system. ODD is a disorder whose criteria could reasonably apply to pretty much any child, and it's most commonly used to shut down abused and/or minority children (as an example, it's known to be disproportionately diagnosed among Black youth).

Katya is known to be kind of a bratty kid who annoys people on purpose ("symptom" number 6!) and has little respect for rules or authority. Her position (prior to her recapture) as an 003 is in the lower bounds of how bad a mutant's treatment can get before 004, essentially torture. I don't think it's a far leap of reason to say that this placement could in part be due to her behavior. To me, that's a pretty clear analog for a childhood ODD diagnosis.

Sanya Kazarina is disabled — she has albinism, Dissociative Identity Disorder, and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

Albinism is canon. I didn't specify which type because I don't think she has a real life type — no forms of OCA or OA look like that IRL. She's got some other Zone-facillitated bullshit.

Dissociative Identity Disorder is an incredibly easy read as well. 100 Epitaphs shows Sanya interacting with her past self and dismissing her due to their vastly different worldviews. Very plural.

HEDS is in part projection, but I also feel ss though an undiagnosed chronic illness would help round out her theming around being dismissed and failed by the adults in her life. Being 16 and a homebody, it's unlikely that her HEDS would progress to a point that disables her from engaging in clubbing, which is the main thing she leaves her house for.
