let this be our little secret;

That day was the 18th anniversary of Mateo and Landons friendship, and as always, they vowed to spend it together; despite the fact that Mateo was positive Landon would cancel on him due to the awkwardness of their relationship for the last three weeks.

Had Mateo not called Landon drunk and admitted that he’s been in love with him since they were eight, they may not be awkward. But he couldn’t take it because, and he certainly couldn’t say it wasn’t true. Because he loved Landon, and he spent 14 years loving Landon without being loved back. But he was okay with it.

But things were still awkward, and Mateo didn’t blame him.

However, their acclaimed friendiversary didn’t get canceled. Their usual friendiversary was watching movies and ending up curled up together on one of their beds. This one, however, started with a lot of liquor. It was Mateo’s idea, of course, because he thought everything was easier to deal with when he was dunk. 

So instead of ending up watching movies cuddling up on Mateo’s bed, they were laying side by side, both rambling about random things. 

"Dude." Landon started, and Mateo turned his head, narrowing his eyebrows at his best friends. “Dude, I love you.” Mateo chuckled at the words, nodding his head. “I know, bro. Love you too.” 

"No." "Like, I’m in love with you." 

Mateo was positive he had fallen asleep, and that this was a dream. But no. He was awake, and this was real. 

"You what?" Mateo questioned quietly.

"I’m in love with you." 

Mateo was sure Landon was about to explain. Maybe tell him that they were drunk, or that he just hasn’t realized Mateo was there the entire time. But instead of asking how, or why, or if this was the reason they’d been so awkward around each other, Mateo hesitantly leaned forward, kissing Landon softly.

He could ask questions later.
