I nabbed this concept art from a reddit user, who in turn likely got it from RelicBoyKnack, who reposted it from an official source. I wonder how he's doing... I'm rerereposting this image because it gives us a general idea of Knack's parts and their placement, although not in their exact size or number and proportion. The pyramids around his waist are gold in the first game, which can be hard to see because they are reflective. I used to think the pyramids on Knack's chest represented breasts or pecs or the like, but after seeing this, idk what they are. But anyway.
Knack's character design in the first game adheres pretty closely to the example, such as:
I notice that the pyramid relics in this stage, and even larger to a certain point, only really cover the front, rather than the back. This may give the impression of a loincloth. Knack doesn’t exactly have a butt until the second game (more on that later), so maybe the devs didn't bother with it too much. Or maybe the cubes are part of the clothing aspect. What do you think?
When he gets larger, teal pyramid relics are added to the collection of pyramids at his waist. This is why I think he has a skirt or the like.
This is *almost* as large as he gets before he starts putting on red relics in the first game, which has been interpreted by the fandom as hair, fur, or quills (a la hedgehog, iirc). He still has the skirt on in his largest form.
In the second game, the cubes and pyramids seem to be at the same level at his waist. As soon as little knack collects any relics, the pyramids that he starts with are immediately replaced with the cubes, at least from what I recall seeing. There's an odd pattern where Knack at 5 feet and above has two smaller pyramid relics above the cube relics, and a bigger central pyramid relic.
This trend remains even when he's 6-7 feet tall, but he does get red pyramid relics, too. I don't know why the ones on the sides are lower. In the first game, he seems to have teal pyramids there at that height, and in the second game, certain pyramids are made red. Not sure why.
Anyway, at a certain size and beyond, the design evolves to where red cubes and red pyramids make up a strip at his waist, but it seems to be much narrower than in the first game. So it lends a kind of belt-like impression.
Even though the devs gave him a butt at a certain size to fill some space between his legs and torso, and you see it a lot while you're playing the game, it seems to be angled away during various cutscenes. You'd think that with the gratuitous Lifting and Door Opening scenes viewed from behind, you'd incidentally see his butt-crack at many points, but it turns out not so much. I do have a few screenshots looking under there, and there's a strip of gold-green cubes. That's why I wonder if it's like mawashi or something.
It takes me a while to find good, clear screenies. Knack's design is so busy that it's best viewed in motion to fully comprehend it, I think. In KNACK II, Knack gradually becomes more red at a sooner size stage, so his red belt is nearly impossible to see when he is at maximum size. I didn't really try to grab screenies that include clear crystals or ice or metal, because they're either very hard to see or cover him up. The below screenies are not at his maximum size, but getting close. The clothing is hard to see.
I hope this was informative. What do you think the design of that area represents?
I mean, in his biggest form it was DEFINITELY something like a skirt, so i always considered that it was that. Not much to say from my end you elaborated quite a lot,, but i overall picture him having skirt/banners like this or smth

Also yes, the roleplay is hella chaotic because there’s no exact line of events. And the shard player literally SNATCHED my ass from my cillain plans because his alien pet accidentally made an old wound of my character at the time worse. LOL

I'm here to ask if it's okay to ask more about the AU you've posted about? Or at least the one i saw with finitevus. Big fan of that guy here! :) REALLY quickly doodled my design with your au finitevus because i got inspired, but this request is not about art but merely to ask about what happened to your Finney there. :)
Even though it kinda baffles me about him being in the eggman empire (purely because i always considered him a hater, so it's just lorewise gag not a mistake or personal), i really like your design and want to know more about him! I didn't read much, just-just found you, so i am curious..(and sorry if you already answered such questions, or if it's not allowed to ask this!)
Did he loose his limbs after the fall from angel island in your au? Just theorising because i'm hella interested hehe..

UGH, I always feel sooo spoiled whenever someone shows interest in Finitevus, even moreso in my AU Finiiiii. I LOVE your Finitevus already!
erm, erm! Some lore under the cut.
You'd be right! Canon Finitevus was pretty apathetic towards the Eggman Empire, but mine had completely different circumstances leading up to his involvement. Mine is very AU - major differences being that he was born and raised in a cult AND he had been successful in unleashing Enerjak on his world. He wanted a soft reset and got it, though he was gravely injured in the process (this would be his incident, something I like All Finitevus(s) to have. Canon Finitevus was the accident with Chaos Knuckles, this Finitevus was unleashing Enerjak through the Master Emerald). It was fine, Finitevus had made his peace with dying.
That's when Eggman found Finitevus. While looking through different 'zones' for potential world ending power, there was a huge spike in energy that caught his eye.
Eggman found nothing but a ruined world and the source being a tiny echidna barely clinging to life. Wanting to learn more about what happened, he brought Finitevus back to his world. He essentially nursed him back to health, had to replace Most of his body, the limbs were especially unsalvageable.
Finitevus woke up some unknown time later, in a place he didn't recognize, all four limbs removed. The technology of the Empire was SO new to him, he was a little awestruck by mundane things like flatscreen tvs and tablets.

considering how finitevus apparently has pretty bad burn scars on her hands which are probably at least occasionally painful she should start using audio notes to make things easier for herself
You see, in the chaos knuckles arc where she(your AU)/he(archie comics) got twisted with the chaos energy,
Tou know what i will just use she/her here while explaining typing the she/he stuff all the time is exhausting
So like in that arc, she already has woken up WITH the bandages in the hospital. The bandages were grey and stayed gray, which is, not a normal colour for bandages. I assumed it was from severe injuries, because that’s what happens when bandages are grey; too much sucrose stuff coming from woulds(or infection)
That much sucrose normally comes from burn wounds, which you know, chaos DOES burn. Really badly too. But also, the chaos transformed him due to a SUIT malfunction in the first place.
So i had a choice of:
Making him have burn wounds/scars in my art
Or making him have marks from the suit locking onto him like the damn springlock suit.
I decided to keep the burn marks, and maybe get the scars of the suit malfunction stuff a bit later when i do research on how to draw that lol

Its 1am and my old obsession with Dr. Finitevus is rising again. AAAAAH!!!
“Who’s Finitevus?” You ask? Oh ho… Only like one of Knuckles greatest/ craziest villains with an even shorter anger fuse and sense of cockiness from the Sonic Archie series.
He was such a great villain. Definitely an untrustworthy, manipulative, mentally and emotionally unstable monster- but dang he was cool the moment I saw him. (no- I’m not attracted to him in that way- NO! Stop it!) I used to feel bad for him and still kind of do.
He had tried to help Knuckles back when he was possibly a stable individual in a kind of corrupt society when a bunch of people were trying to stop Knuckles when he became Green Knuckles (which was a lot scarier than it sounds. For you DGM fans, think of how Allen is changing into a Noah but a hundred times faster and actually hurting other people). Granted- maybe um… having a suit that sucked the energy into your own body was not a bright idea (he basically made what Knuckles Great great- some other greats- uncle and grandfather made but wearable) but he had good intentions and was apparently young and naive at the time and the echidnas were desperate.
So after the plan for siphoning chaos energy out of green Knuckles failed (partially because of Charmy Bee and Saphron thinking they were trying to hurt Knuckles) they rushed him to the hospital and concluded he became a photonegative of the negative side of Knuckles. They (well the council in Echidnaoplis) also unanimously decided not to tell Knuckles about this guy who kind of went crazy trying to help him with his prototype suit and started talking about how the world was corrupt and uh basically said, “You know what? He’s too far gone. Let’s not admit this was our fault and kill him.” (I learned the word “euthanize” from this back story scene) (I might be wrong on them not admitting it was their fault this happened- but given what happened to the Tazmanian Devils in the Archie comics and other dumb stuff they did and the fact they didn’t- y’know, say to the person who could help- well maybe they wanted to protect Knuckles from more trauma or the clearly crazy guy with clearly crazy plans-). The only people who know about the truth of Finitevus’s origin are Locke (Knuckles’s dad who sure wasn’t going to tell him and sadly can’t because well… indirectly/ directly what the little goblin did with Knuckles involving the scene above) and Remington (old friend of Knux who Knuckles is afraid to face and because well… not just what Finny did but uh… another victim of Echidnas being jerks except from a long long time ago). And thanks to weird writing decisions and new editors or something dropping Finitevus (and Scourge) entirely on a cliff hanger (and the sad end of the Archie series with Starline being the closest thing to Finitevus in the IDW series except maybe- I hate to admit- better written villain) Knuckles will never know.
I feel like a whole slew of events could have been avoided or played out differently if Knuckles knew exactly what happened to Finitevus. A LOT differently. Like “if Sonic met Mephiles- they might have been friends because Sonic might understand why Mephiles acted the way he did” differently (another theory I have). But I’m also a Sonic villain sympathizer and a villain sympathizer in general. Maybe when I have the time, I’ll reread the Archie comics with good ol’ Finitevus (which I have semi memorized thanks to being a youth with Finitevus problems) and come up with a more solid “Could Finitevus be helped” theory.
