BIRTHDAY GIFT FRON FRIEND @sernhuh
DANKESHON MY DEAR FRIEND
Happy pride btw
Headcanon that after Grace and Rocky arrive on Erid, some Eridians struggle to perceive Grace as an equally intelligent and aware being.
Some of them are being outright disrespectful but for others it's simply difficult to see him as a person as easily as Rocky did. This is partially because no-one is as desperate and exhilerated as Rocky was and partially because at this point Grace is basically a dying animal that can't do anything on his own.
After watching the same problem occur over and over again Rocky and the human care team decide to make it mandatory for anyone who is planning to work with Grace to play a game of chess (or a similar Eridian board game) with him. A game where neither an Eridian nor a human has any real advantage.
The idea is that direct observation will help Eridians have an easier time understanding human intelligence, gestures, vocalisations and familiarize themselves with the unusual (and frankly freaky) human body. Aside from this, it also helps both Grace and Eridians socialize with each other. Working like what humans call an "ice-breaker". And if the Eridian fails to interact with Grace in an adequate manner, they are kicked out of the project.
And some Eridians find it enjoyable playing with Grace who accepts proposals readily, which leads to score-keeping, which snowballs into having entire tournaments within scientist groups working on Project Save Grace.
And even after Grace's passing they continue to have them to commemorate Grace and because it's become tradition. Grace has made tradition.

furthest we've ever been
May he be remembered for thousands of years
Don't have much to say about modern cinema etiquette but one thing i will say is that my mom sneezed loud af in the middle of the Backrooms movie and the highschooler girl sat in front of me who kept talking through the movie literally jumped in her seat and i think that experience was just as enjoyable as the movie
I just realized Grace is basically an immigrant
I was thinking about what it would be like to live on an alien planet and what kind of experiences we have on earth that could be similar to that and i realized something
1. Leaving your home involuntarily and urgently at a time of great distress
We are all gonna die here. If you want things to get better, you better go. Well, I say "You better" but you never really had a choice
2. Food scarcity
You have a limited amount of food and you will run out. After believeing you'll die of starvation, you find a way get more food. You're happy you have something to eat but the new food is weird and unpleasant. You dont have any other choice
3. Language differences
You have to learn a new language now. One that's not like any that you've ever heard before. It's not the worst but it's tiring, and you won't ever speak it like the natives do. You don't have a choice but to try despite that
4. Cultural differences
Things that were completely normal to you are now seen as obscene and unsightly. And things that you've never done before are now part of your daily life. It's not that bad really but it does remind you of how much of a stranger you are in this place. You don't have anywhere else to go
In conclusion:
That man is practically an interstellar immigrant
Helmet off
That's pretty damn cool
What happens when Grace doesn’t sleep for 48 hours.
Based on this panel from Dungeon Meshi:
I love this so much

Hi guys! I thought I should just share my whole mini little library of Project Hail Mary-related things so they're all in one place:
It includes:
A telesync of the movie (with English soft subtitles)
A digital copy of the movie (with occasional Russian hard subtitles)
My transcript of the movie (more on that here)
Audio recordings of the movie
A PDF of the book
An EPUB of the book (for e-readers)
The full audiobook
A copy of Andy Weir's doc on Eridians
A copy of Andy Weir's spreadsheet on Astrophage physics (among many other things!)
A draft of the screenplay for the film from 2022
An audio recording of the director's commentary
My transcript of the director's commentary
The telesync subtitle SRT file
The audiobook, audio recordings, and commentary all have their properties programmed so they (should) work just like songs with a track number, album cover, artist, and so on if you download them.
There are two audios of the movie, one is the entire film untouched and one is that same audio cut up and broken down into separate scenes for convenience.
Additionally, there are two versions of the transcript, one with time stamps that match the audio and one without. The time stamps (+ their titles from the audio) are outlined in that version, so if you double-click on that tab or click "show outline," they'll all show up and you can pick a specific scene.
The first few seconds of the commentary are missing unfortunately as my US friend who was kind enough to record it for me had some technical difficulties at the start, but the commentary starts around the shot of the robot arms right before the shot of "good luck!" written on Grace's sleeping bag. It's also about 40-45-ish seconds behind the audio recording if you can only listen.
There's also a google doc with some instructions to follow if any of the files aren't working, which usually happens when too many people try to access or download something at the same time.
As always, if anything's not working right or you notice any mistakes in anything, please let me know and I'll fix it as soon as I can!
Apologies for the long and unexpected delay, but the transcript for the director's commentary is finished and now available in the drive!
There are two different versions of the transcript, the first is made to listen along to the commentary, while the second is more intended to be read on its own. The first is a direct transcription of everything that's said (an attempt, at least), while the second is slightly cleaned up for easier reading, meaning things like jumbled sentences and stuttering were removed or reorganised, but nothing has been actually paraphrased or anything. Both are broken down into different scenes based on how their conversation goes, and the listening version includes timestamps.
Like I said in the movie transcript's post, I am not a professional transcriber and this is just something I did for fun, so it is definitely not perfect. Additionally, there are a few spots throughout the transcript where I couldn't figure out exactly what they were saying, mostly because there wasn't enough diction, and those are all marked with a question mark in brackets. So if you know what they're saying in those spots (or any other spots I may have misheard without realising it), please let me know and I'll correct it!
Tysm this is gonna come in handy
Thanks @rackiera for the idea
I love this movie so much
