behold, the incredibly underwhelming beginnings of my Arborea shawl
i fell in love with this pattern when i saw it and wanted to knit it in one of my handspun laceweight gradients. i'm six rows into chart 1 but i don't know where my cable needle is so i'll be hunting that down tomorrow
and since i am refusing to attempt rushing through this shawl, knocking out a few rows a day throughout August will fit in nicely with the Lace Coven's 31 Days of Coven Lace.

i can't decide which part of this message is my favorite, but if I HAD to say, probably the part where you appear to be entirely in earnest about this? in almost any other case I would assume a message like this was an elaborate way of insulting me or my partner or both, but I really genuinely don't think that's the case for you, which is actually MORE confusing. its just so compelling. there's so many layers here. i want to hire someone to cross stitch this for me so I can hang it in our living room. i can hear ship intermittently breaking out in peals of hysterical laughter in the kitchen

31 Days of Coven Lace - The challenge is coming!

Starting on August 1st, 2026, the Lace Coven will host a 31 days of lace challenge!
The rules are simple: work on a lace project every day from August 1st to August 31st. Any amount of time spent on your lace counts: from a mini-session of ten minutes to an epic four hour-sitting, any bit of lace counts! AND, any activity related to your lace projects counts, too: blocking, weaving ends, winding bobbins, adding beads to your thread - as long as youâre doing something for one of your lace works, it counts!

After scrolling through a bajillion pages of the current fad for greige 10 mohairs held together plain sweaters, I have finally found a designer worth buying patterns from! If only they had this scale pattern on a sweater!
Ok. This is pretty neat. Makes me wish I knew how to knit.
Tragically, all the good tentacles are crocheted, not knit.
BTW, if anyone knows other Ravelry designers who give off similar vibes to Lavish Craft, I want their names! Or just your favorite designers in general as long as they arenât PetiteKnit.
Iâve seen a lot of designs that are incidentally named after things from fantasy books, but the actual look of the piece wouldnât tell you what itâs inspired by. Iâm more interested in designers doing dragon scale designs or at least sweaters I can picture on a hobbit.
Fabel Knitwear has some pretty stuff, but I hear her gauge is weird af and her patterns are confusing. I have the Montmartre but havenât made a serious attempt at it yet, so weâll see what I think. Iâm not finding the instructions bad, but I agree with all the nitpickers that her own knitting is that trendy airy bullshit where the needles are 5 sizes too big and youâre making up for it with hairy yarns. My sense is that sheâs one of those designers whose shots of herself in samples are by far the best thing about the designs.
Iâve spotted a couple of things I want from Skeindeer Knits. Lots of classic looks there that I canât easily get from a store.
Norah Gaughanâs more whimsical designs, like this one and this one, might be up your alley. (She has a lot of really basic stuff too, including at least a couple in the vein of the trend you mentioned, but sheâs also a bloody wizard with cables and other interesting design elements.)
Oh man! I had not realized those were by the same person! Iâve run across both separate times and found them intriguing.

Her other knits are a range of ânormalâ to âfantasy-esqueâ, but I think theyâre neat. :)

When searching on ravelry, you can put a minus before a search term like so: -mohair. This will remove any patterns that identify as using mohair. This might make avoiding those kinds of patterns easier.

Kulabra Designs is also great for interesting, intricate colorwork!! Obviously, your choice of yarn really matters, but Natalia Moreva does incredible colorwork. The best part? Very rarely do you ever have to break your yarn. You might think youâre gonna have to weave in a million ends, but you donât.

She also has a ton of extremely detailed colorwork socks, mittens, hats, and sweaters, but these shawls/scarves allow for such big, striking motifs, I had to show them.
Another 100g finished. 75/25 zwartbles/silk. Gradient dyed. Intended for warp. Spun straight through from end to end. The second braid I will break down into small strips and spin into a short repeated gradient skein and that one will be weft. This is the furthest Iâve ever gotten on a planned spin to weave project which is very exciting!
