Our Little Uluru

If one were to look more closely, he was looking more peeved than when you both started playing. If anyone had a Xavier encyclopedia, they would see his eyes were oozing spite; and fortunately for you, you wrote the encyclopedia.

“Do you… want me to try?” You slowly offer. Xavier shakes his head, “No, if we're going to make a plushy army to take over the world, I have to earn their respect.”

You stare at him while trying not to laugh. The deadpan determination coming from him was a harsh contrast to the pastel fluffy friends waiting in the claw machine box.

After a few more tries, Xavier manages to snag the yellow rabbit cactus – the last one missing from your shelf. The claws sunk into the base of the pot as it hovered above the prize chute.

Xavier isn't aware of it, but his concentration was completely set on the unsuspecting victim that he didn't even notice the buzz of both of your Hunter's watches.

He goes to pick up the final member to your army while you check the alerts your watch sent. The young man can't help but sigh quietly as he examines the chubby bunny, “You'll be hearing a few words from me when we get home, Sergeant.”

A week later, you spent one of your days off deep cleaning your apartment; that included a few hours of organizing your collection of mementos and plushies.

Xavier aligned the cat plushie next to the alien plushie before looking at the next one…

“Hmm, so we meet again, Sergeant…” he mumbles, quiet enough to avoid your ears. Whether playfully or not, he pinches the cactus rabbit's ears before placing it all the way to the back of the shelf.

“Someone needs a timeout and some self-reflection.”

“What was that, Hun?”

“Nothing…”

Bunnies cannot vomit.

You tried to cover your mouth with multiple tissues to muffle the sound of your coughing. Today was one of those days where you and Xavier would drive around Linkon to find new food places to try out. This one was one of many food stalls by a crowded street.

The sweet old woman selling tteokbokki offered a lot more condiments and sauces than any restaurant you've been to.

The problem was… both of you underestimated how important spice levels were and how intense the sauce was. Surely two hunters who've had their share of injuries could stand a few spicy bites of rice cakes.

As soon as you both went back inside the car with your haul of trinkets and snacks, you got hit with the taste of karma when the tteokbokki was as red as a lobster and topped with a little bit of chili powder.

You had to blink back small tears before you looked at your very silent partner. Xavier's lips were pressed hard into a line. His gaze was far away, like the disorientation of waking up from a nap.

“Xav? Uh… Hun? Are you still with us?” You nudge. He snaps out of his trance, and merely clears his throat, his lips slightly red like yours.

“Yeah, that was… unexpected…”

“Understatement much, I think I saw the first two minutes of my life flashback.” You sink further into the car seat ready to melt. “I'm surprised you're holding it together; just talking right now burns.”

Xavier covers his mouth, but doesn't give any major reactions like sniffling or coughing. You're almost insulted that you're the mess between you both. That feeling only doubles when he picks up another piece to eat.

“Maybe your tongue has gone numb…” you conclude that's probably why he can eat anything he cooks all sorts of food.

“Trust me, I feel the burn too,” he says, adding nothing else.

...

“Let's try the smoothies shall we?”

“Definite-” you cut yourself off with another round of coughs.

Bunnies are mostly active at dusk, dawn, and certain periods during the night.

You wake up to the TV turning off, and you're half aware that you're laying on the couch sharing a blanket with Xavier. Just a few hours ago, you had both been spending the Saturday night binging a thriller series.

Now, the blanket was moving to your side and the couch cushions lifted. Xavier quietly huffed at his own strange sleep schedule. Oh well, there were a few more hours until the sun was bright enough to wake you up. He could find some means of entertainment.

You jolted up from your very cozy spot when you heard the grating sound of pans and plates clashing.

Uh oh.

“X-Xav! Are you in the kitchen?” You scramble off your pillows and failing to notice how much of the blanket your boyfriend covered you in, promptly fell side-first onto the carpet.

“You should've told me you wanted to cook something-”

“But you were sleeping so peacefully and I wanted to surprise you.”

“That's really sweet but…”

Just like a comedy sketch, the sound of the fire alarm rings through the apartment.

Bunnies can be observed "chinning" or rubbing their chin on people and objects.

Typing on your laptop with one earbud in your ear, you were completely in the zone. It was a busy day at the Association; busy enough that you hadn't seen your boyfriend even in the office. You pressed your lips in a thin line, today's files were long enough that you had to take it home even after working hours.

The even and informative voice of the news anchor was playing in one ear as the door to your apartment beeped open. Xavier, having just showered at his apartment upstairs, gently closed the door and dropped his bag by the couch. You didn't even hear him enter the room when your focus was to just finish the document as early as possible.

One thing you were grateful for about Xavier, he understood how you functioned. You two were kindred introverted spirits. He made his way to your desk, making sure his steps were intentionally heavy enough for you to recognize even with your back still facing him, and leaned into your curled up form on the chair.

“Hey Hun…” you mumble when he sinks his face to the crook of your neck. Unbeknownst to you, Xavier furrowed his brows when he couldn't detect the scent of his hoodie on you. He knew why – you usually only wore it to sleep– but it annoyed him. He wore it often before lending it to you as a subtle way of scenting you. He huffed softly.

No matter, he turned to the screen you were looking at, “How much more do you have left to fill in?” He asks. “Just a few more minutes, I'm pretty sure.”

A few moments pass in silence.

You feel a weight on the top of your head. You try to tilt your head up, but Xavier's head nudges you back to your laptop. He continues to nuzzle the top of your head with his chin, no doubt ruffling your hair, but that was a small sacrifice to pay for covering you in his scent.

He continued his mission while you kept typing with a soft smile on your face.
