GYRRH Eyesaira: Super Micro USB Cable - First Look

This is the cable I’ve wanted to make for a while but figuring out how to do so eluded me.

You’re going to have to forgive me for the video quality; it not only had to be reduced to fit here but the camera I’m using is made of organic garbage. That’s right, organic. Or something.

The goal has always been to produce the overall best charge-only cable but after looking at its siblings, Asenak and Engardrado, I wanted it to do more.

A few posts back, I showed a picture of a scrapped cable and, in hindsight, it would not have been a good idea to make. However, what that particular cable did isn’t something I’ll mention at this time but may be implemented in any of the three cable series in the future.

Looking at this video, you’ll see that upon plugging the Eyesaira prototype in, the LG Motion shows “Slow Charging.” The cable’s then removed and plugged back in to charge faster. What happened?

I can say I’ll begin making data-enabled USB cables but Eyesaira is not a data/charge-only cable. After all, what would be so “super” about that? 

There are four cable series: the original GYRRH, GYRRH Asenak, GYRRH Engardrado and GYRRH Eyesaira, the last of which is not yet available to the public.

The original GYRRH series was largely discontinued and only 3″ models remain.

The Asenak and Engardrado series succeeded the original cable with the latter focusing on higher durability and protection (fused).

I decided, for the time being, to increase Asenak’s durability to match Engardrado’s - so the only difference between the two is that it isn’t fused. Asenak cables won’t increase in price for the remainder of 2015.

The reason I’m unsure if this will be permanent is because they’re somewhat difficult to make. The Engardrado series takes quite a while to manufacture but is, to-date, the best charge-only cable available.

The decision to strengthen the Asenak cable series isn’t due to any sort of defects or complaints - no customer has returned them. At the same time, I want you to have the best level of durability possible so that they know in 5 years, your cable won’t fray whether used exclusively indoors to power whatever or used in a desert-bound ATV.

And then there were none.

I recently talked about how inspirational individuals, such as Helen Keller, caused me to think differently about moving forward with wireless energy. This is an example of where, sometimes, what seems like a good idea just isn’t.

This is a prototype for a cable that would have been released within a month or so. It works but its performance comes off more as a “gimmick” than its intended function, which would rarely (I believe, anyway) have been activated - not that it isn’t useful, it isn’t practical enough for the everyday person to use.

One thing that will be changed going forward is the breakdown of products’ materials (domestic vs. imported) - they can currently be found in their respective manual. This change will only affect new products (after July 2015).

The reason is because many companies don’t label their products in accordance with the Made in USA standard and it’s very tricky to do so. 

GYRRH cables were manufactured to comply with the Buy American Act for Federal Government acquisitions. It isn’t necessary to label cables as such but it would help. However, when materials are labeled:

This is what morphevo will be - something that’s not a phone or computer but a different kind of device. What connection does it have with the upcoming GYRRH cable?

It was supposed to be the best portable charger ever. 

I referenced this product a few posts ago but this one was never released for a variety of reasons, mostly due to relying on existing designs (by other companies) with a few modifications. 

Some of you have seen a cartoonish picture in product descriptions. What I haven’t revealed is that, that picture is part of a much larger “map” that would detail my progress to wireless energy.

For the first time, you’re seeing more of that map along with people involved in helping me get there. I haven’t publicly provided it because of an issue with showing information on mobile devices - and that a lot of people probably wouldn’t be interested.

I asked, “What if I make a super cable?”

What the hell’s a “super” cable?

The elephant in the room with charge-only cables is, “can’t I throw a switch in a regular cable and have a charge-only cable?” Why yes, yes you can - it may not charge as fast but you can. This isn’t just that, though.

I’ve made data cables but the market is saturated with them, which is why I wanted to focus on charge-only. This particular cable would have done at least 3 different things but the execution process isn’t straightforward.

Even though it works, there are certain (expected and) unexpected things that also prevented this one from being made.

First of all, since this cable has multiple switches, the user would be confused. It works for me but for the ordinary consumer, it wouldn’t work.

From a numbers perspective and assuming a single USB port, it would take 3 steps to switch from data mode to charge-only whereas going from a data cable to charge-only cable would take 4 steps, which is acceptable.

Any type of interaction with the user requires a custom-made interface (on the cable) which is out of the question for the time being due to lack of resources.

Furthermore, this one would have to be shielded and just like the afore point, that isn’t yet feasible.

I started paying attention to other things.

I needed inspiration to figure out how to evolve GYRRH cables and cost simply couldn’t be the reason a great product wouldn’t exist.

Just as certain as what I envisioned “Morphevo” Mobile Lifestyle System could be from my pitch deck, certain things kept coming up.

So I started watching videos of a few individuals, one of which was Helen Keller, who made me believe (well her and her lifelong teacher) that humans can do just about anything if you are tuned to a specific thing and are simply focused enough to do it.

Specifically mentioning Ms. Keller has significance but I’ll save that for another time.

What you see is a prototype for a new cable to overcome the shielded issue - well maybe not overcome but act differently as an electric cable.

This particular prototype works but is currently unrealistic for general use. I’m waiting on a few components to arrive in a few weeks and if it performs as well as I expect it to, it’ll be made available within the next two months (it’ll take about a month for the parts to arrive).

I figured out the first part, so making shielded cables isn’t an issue. Next came, “where do I get the wire?”

After seeing the shocking price tag, I slammed on the brakes.

But I have to say, what’s happened the past few months has been unexpected, leading me to take GYRRH into another direction.

I questioned just how far I can take a simple cable. The goal is to have a great, reliable product that you forget about - it does what it’s supposed to do and we’re all happy. There’s nothing complicated about it - it just works.

Wooooh, update time!

Earlier this year, a customer asked if any of my cables were shielded as they experienced problems with unshielded cables. I told them, “no, but they should be available in a few weeks.”

That never happened primarily because I didn’t know how to make shielded cables. I experimented with a few things after understanding just how fragile shielded cables were in an effort to make better ones but it just didn’t work out.

There were other issues, however; USB cables really don’t emit such magnetic interference to disrupt other electronics and then there’s cost - they are really expensive, at least wire that met certain guidelines which are manufactured in the U.S. like all GYRRH cables.

On one hand, cost couldn’t be an excuse for not making a product that may have a small chance at preventing possible electromagnetic interference and on the other hand, USB cables, shielded or not, don’t tend to interfere with other devices.

But one day, I inadvertently stumbled across someone (on a forum somewhere) saying that their portable drive wouldn’t work with non-shielded cables. 

Back to square one.

The main concern wasn’t whether or not an unshielded cable may cause interference but rather other cables interfering with your device. The cable plugged into your stuff also poses a risk to electronics with a significant enough magnetic field so the questions, again, were:

How the hell do I make a shielded cable?

As I cracked open today’s The Washington Post to read some comics news, one individual stood out.

One thing I wanted to do in 2014 was contact Mr. Ronald Mallett, a gentleman I saw on one of the History channels because he declared that the invention of the time machine was not only possible, but (I believe) should have been accomplished last year. 

I started typing a letter and a few weeks later and eventually deleted it - not that there was anything of significance.

When I saw the piece regarding time, I thought, “hmmm...even if he figured out how to do so, it would require such massive energy that it couldn't be replicated or frequently utilized.” Altogether, I didn't think it to be possible and his explanations, which smoothly sailed over my noggin’, made little sense.

But as someone interested in an energy source that’s literally out of this World and wanting to make it wireless using “elastic energy,” I began to wonder, “well, what is time travel?” How would anyone even define it to work on it?

My letter’s intention was to help him achieve his goal because it might actually be possible. There are various other reasons but I won’t bore you with the deets.

Wanting to help achieve such a feat was a struggle; much like wireless energy, with the advent of time travel - or whatever we’ll call it - there will be those that will use it with ill intent to psychologically and/or physically harm others. 

At the same time, I couldn't and can’t stifle the evolution and introduction of new and undiscovered technology because of the malicious intentions of a few individuals - we’ll leave that to law enforcement to handle. Nonetheless, knowing it will happen is still a burden.

The goal is that if Mr. Mallett’s current success rate is 0%, let’s make it at least 1%. Before continuing though, there needs to be clarification of a few things:

How would you define time?

How would you define time travel?

If there’s anything useful from this I could say to Mr. Mallett to get started, it would be to consider a new concept of time  - one that is more efficient and precise than what we know it to be. Much like we look at a clock that says “5:34 PM,” so too can it say “19N” and mean the same thing. I’l leave the nerdy calculations to you.

The other would be something corny I made up, which I call the “Minimum Chaos Theory.” I suggest that all phenomena within the observed, unobserved and ex-Universe (an area, if any, beyond the unobserved Universe) are required to deviate from a pattern. 

This sort of brief statement branches off into a lot of other questions but those are things I’d rather discuss with his team if I get to chance to help with his experiment.

Or, you know, reaching over late at night to plug your phone in because you forgot and keep trying to jam the cable in the wrong way.

But one thing I've always taught my cables - they aren't allowed to fail, even if roasted with a little tomato sauce, garlic, onions...mmmm...bacon cheeseburg...

This kind of makes me wonder if I should scrap an idea for future cables in place of thermal protection to stop electronics that may not have it - I thought phones would, however, to prevent overheating. 

What the...?

Something unusual happened yesterday. Not the regular unusual, but the, WTF-variation of unusual.

A phone burned one of our cables - or at least tried to.

This is the first generation of GYRRH charging cables which is constructed of mostly materials made in the United States, including the yellow sleeving, wires and other nerdy parts that will surely make you fall asleep. The two parts that are imported are the cable’s connectors on either end because no one in the United States manufactures them.

Before continuing, I want to show you a few more photos of exactly what charge-only cables do; as previously mentioned, the original cable for this tablet and GYRRH both have 22AWG wires but it is a charge-only cable's configuration that makes mobile devices charge faster.

If you have an HP Stream 7 or 8 and notice it charging slowly from a portable (or car) charger, this is what it's doing - it will consume no more than 420mA from its power source.

With a charge-only cable, HP tablets will use the maximum required for optimal charging up to the maximum a USB port can output. Here, it's only using 760mA but will go higher if necessary.

A few minutes later, the tablet was plugged into a Dell power adapter (still 5v 2A) with an original 5'ft. GYRRH cable and increased to 960mA; the portable charger could have done this if left to observe for a few more minutes but I wanted to demonstrate using a charge-only cable with a non-original power supply.
