Turned out to be a 72/100 tile small home because I really wanted to keep the angles. The wall coverings and floor tiles were chosen because they started with ‘A’, and the colour scheme was determined by the kitchen cabinets which also began with ‘A’.

After months of trying, the Smiths are finally pregnant and they couldn’t be happier!

On a freezing, but sunny spring day, the Smiths welcomed their first born, William! A son as a first born is a blessing for any family, as he will be the one to take over house affairs and the care of his mother and sisters (if he has any) when his father becomes too old. The line of succession now ensured, Mary feels no guilt about hoping her next baby is a girl!

On a secluded, lakeside lot in St. Rupert’s Land (Windenburg) sits the modest home of John and Mary Smith.

This simply finished home is perfect for the newly married couple. The sitting room is Mary’s favourite place, outfitted with a fireplace and a bookcase with two matching divans, a pricey wedding gift from her grandmother. The woven rugs and many of the wallhangings were crafted by Mary herself, though John’s carving hobby has added some details.

John’s favourite areas of the house include the workshop/greenroom addition he added to preserve his plants during the harsh Canadian winters, and his back garden.

Names were chosen from the most common of the 1890s census.

Introducing John Smith! John is the son of a well known trader for the Hudson’s Bay in St. Rupert’s Land. Rather than follow his father on the trade routes across British North America, John has chosen the more simple life of freelance botany, inspired by his love of the outdoors. Though he chose a simpler life, John has the confidence of a tradesman and is very self-assured. His mother will tell you that John’s only fault is that he never quite learned how to pick up after himself.

Introducing Mary Smith! A farmer’s daughter, Mary is the fifth of seven children and because of this has always dreamed of having a big happy family of her own (though maybe not as big as her parent’s). Despite growing up on a farm, Mary attended school until her teens and is very well-read, taking her love of reading out of the classroom and into her home. Her family oriented qualities and her neatness make her a perfect match for John’s outgoing, sometimes slobby antics.
