gray  brown  eyes  are  fixed  so  vaguely  upon  the  television  screen  before  her   ——   unspoken  volumes  of  drowsiness   (  that  would  surely  be  denied  if  asked  after  )   are  written  plain  upon  olivia’s  visage.   it’s  surprisingly  early  for  her  to  be  settling  down  for  the  night;   only  eight  twenty  two  and  she’s  practically  down  for  the  count,   a  startling  shift  from  her  typical  habit  of  sitting  up  wide  awake  until  ten,   eleven,   the  witching  hour…

a  soft  yawn  is  barely  stifled  behind  the  sleeve  of  her  bobbly  cardigan.   

     death  ,   surprisingly  enough  in  it’s  old  age  ,   is  an  enabler  .   when  it  comes  to  the  way  olivia  and  the  way  she  defies  the  natural  order  of  things  ?   oh  yes  .   absolutely  .   always  .   (  and  we’re  not  even  talking  about  the  locket  .  )   staying  up  late  is  only  one  of  many  ,   but  how  gentle  it  is  to  come  home  with  the  summer  breeze  ,   watching  her  from  the  doorway  .   soft  ;   you  watch  ,   see  her  stifle  a  yawn  ,   and  smile  .

   GOD  TALKS  .

     he  speaks  in  splendors  and  miracles  ,   in  wrath  and  rancor  ;   his  voice  is  a  sound  heard  in  the  pain  of  the  body  and  the  balance  of  the  soul  .   god  talks  ,   AND  WHAT  DO  THEY  HEAR  ?   heathens  will  hear  the  sound  of  shattered  glass  hitting  the  pavement  from  those  temples  of  their  FALSE  IDOLS  ;   angels  will  hear  the  honey  coated  lies  nursed  to  them  from  the  very  moment  their  feathers  plume  ;

                                             AND  YOU  ?     you  hear  nothing  .

          (   or  so  you  say  .   for  god  ?   god  sounds  like  an  old  friend  draped  in  the  dust  of  those  aging  bones  of  yours  .   he  sounds  like  the  creaking  foundation  of  an  old  worn  home  you’ve  come  to  count  as  your  own  ,   hands  trailing  a  weak  wall  and  feet  on  bowing  floor  ,   knowing  it  will  be  gone  before  you  ,   as  it  was  here  after  you  .   god  ,   in  all  his  voices  ,   sounds  accepting  .   BUT  YOU  KNOW  HE  IS  NOT  .   )

        “ friends? ”     kamski  sounds  like  god  .   nothing  more  than  a  fractal  of  shattered  glass  and  falling  feathers  ,   but  enough  to  wrangle  a  smile  from  those  dead  lips  of  yours  .     “ … perhaps. but good? ”

                    you  will  be  anything  but  good  for  one  another  ,   death  and  god  .

“ .  .  .  we - we - we can - can be - can be friends , right ? ”  thinks she heard about this in a joke book once.  death and life meeting in a farmer’s market. maybe they’re both shopping for the same thing. 

@oscarved, but i’m allergic to mangoes - so if that’s what you’re looking for, we can’t. 

     gentle  inquiry  ;     tongue  trembles  and  teeth  click  click  click  ,   but  death  is  patient            you  always  have  been  ,   and  for  her  ?    you  always  will  be  .   flitting  smile  and  tired  eyes  ,   in  hand  a  warm  mug  that  you  gestures  with  in  good  faith  .

ah? is that cowardliness i sense in you?
