Its so nice to see a character with similar disabilities as me. Like I know technically I’m not really disabled, but I love to see characters with vision problems like me. I just started witch hat atelier, (manga spoilers ahead) and I just relate so much to Qifrey and how he’s losing his sight. I have amblyopia, so I’ve been pretty much blind in my right eye for all of my life. For a while my glasses only had one working lens in them, because my other eye worked fine, but then a couple years ago I started to lose sight in that one as well. It wasn’t that bad at first and I could get away with not wearing glasses but now I actually need them or I can’t see a damn thing. While I’m not literally missing an eye, and I probably won’t go blind in the other one, I still really relate to his struggles with sight and I feel really seen by it. It just makes me happy :)
People love to point out the moment where Dazai calls Chuuya “incredible” in stormbringer and while yes it’s amazing on its own, it’s so much more powerful when compounded with the line that comes before it
“O grantors of dark disgrace,” he whispered so softly that only he could hear. “‘Disgrace,’ huh?”
Number one thing to mention is the fact that Dazai says this only for himself, only he can hear it. This means that he’s being honest in this moment, he is voicing his thoughts out loud.
Clearly he’s musing on Chuuya’s activation phrase, and he singles out the part about disgrace. Of course I am very soukoku pilled so naturally I choose to interpret this as a kind of surprise (especially when it is compounded with the ‘incredible’ afterwards) Dazai doesn’t think that Chuuya’s corrupted form is a disgrace, he does think that it it something to be feared, and we see this a lot from him.
I find that Dazai looks at Chuuya with a lot of affection while he’s in his corrupted form. A state in which most people find him terrifying. And it’s not just because he’s used to it, we see this in the original quote, Chuuya is using corruption for the first time to fight off Verlaine in his corrupted form (a literal monster) he is using gravity to hold his broken bones together, he’s bleeding from every part of his body and yet Dazai still thinks he’s something amazing, he doesn’t think he’s worthy of the title ‘disgrace’, he’s thinks it’s ‘incredible’. He sees Chuuya broken and bleeding and monstrous and yet he still calls it ‘beautiful’ in Dead Apple.
The small compliments he gives in these moments mean the world to me.

another edgy chuuya moment, when he's being interviewed by the detective and asked info about the port mafia. he gets passed a consent form, takes a pen and writes "eat shit" on it. afterward he threw the pen back and said "sorry for interrupting your lil story, keep going." (page 109)
chuuya's pov is always in third person while adam's is in first person.
all im gonna say about page 169 is i was crying while reading it
note from page 173 that i wrote - when chuuya was being ELECTROCUTED in horrific detail.
chuuya hung dazai upside down from a lightpost (page 249)
dazai quote, when speaking to verlaine - "You messed with the wrong guy, Verlaine... I know exactly how to deal with somebody who can manipulate gravity. Day in and day out, I've spent every waking and sleeping moment thinking about how i can annoy Chuuya." (page 230)
dazai believes wholeheartedly that chuuya is the original and is human. "There's no way I could hate a man-made string this much." (page 228)
Verlaine's hat was a birthday gift from Rimbaud. It can stop him - and i think in turn chuuya, from being controlled ig?? it has pan's ability, pan being the person who created verlaine (page 261)
i... i just have to quote this moment from mori to dazai. "If that monster kills you, nobody will be able to save Chuuya, and he will die as well. In other words, you will finally get the death you have always yearned for but with Chuuya by your side." WHAT DO YOU MEAN BUT THATTTT??? (page 278)
dazai responded with this, btw
adam sacrificed himself for chuuya to escape verlaine's monster form or whatever the fuck, saying this. "My dream is to protect humans." His voice was clear and kind like a parent protecting their child. "And that dream about to come true. I get to protect you. I couldn't ask for more."
