If you are a witch, chances are you've seen people tell you that you have to work with a deity, or that you can't take a break from working with them once you start.

THAT IS FALSE!!!!

Please, please, PLEASE do not feel obligated to stay with a deity once you begin your path with them. If at any point in time you feel overwhelmed or that you're not ready for deity work, it is completely fine to communicate that with the deity. You can come up with a plan with them or completely put a stop to the working relationship and that deity will be alright and understanding of you. They are not heartless and cruel beings.

Please also do not jump into deity work without being confident that you are ready! As a practicing witch of almost seven years, I started deity work almost immediately. This was because of other, much older practitioners telling me I needed to work with a deity for my workings to succeed. However, I burned myself out way too quickly. Because I didn't know how to protect or banish yet, my energy drained quickly. I didn't vet my deities until a few months in because no one told me I should. It got me in a lot of sticky situations.

I still sometimes feel like I need my deities in my practice to be valid— only recently did I officially take a step back from the working relationships I had with Apollo and Loki. The fact of the matter is, working with one deity, let alone multiple, can be overwhelming and exhausting. It's okay to step back. It's okay to set boundaries with your deities. I promise you, they would much prefer that you be honest and communicate rather than say you'll work with them without doing any work.
