My big thing is why Octet? Of all Dave Malloys shows, Octet feels like the weirdest choice. Great Comet was the most popular, and would lend itself well to a cinematic scope and Three Houses has a really nice richness of imagery that would fit well in film. Octet is very restrained in setting, abstract in imagery and relies so heavily on the 8 person cast that adding any additional character from beyond the support group would break the show. The music has a more diagetic element to it than some of the others (The Forest, Fugue State and Monster in particular) and seeing as everyone is singing, choreography is even more difficult. Then there's Little God. If they try and put it on screen, that's the entire CGI budget gone. And I don't trust them not to try. The story itself I'm kinda excited for though; I love Octet, but I'm interested to see how it's interpreted in film and half a decade later, and it's not going to take the original production away or anything. But the physical production is going to be a challenge. Honestly, the only Malloysical I think would be harder to adapt would be Ghost Quartet, which nobody would attempt thankfully. Even Clown Bible would translate to screen easier than Octet.
