Hi everyone. After some thinking, I’ve decided to close my Patreon page. I know it might look sudden, but I’ve been considering it for a while.
(I don’t want to make this into a huge “I’m doing this, look everybody!!!” ordeal, as it’s not something huge and special; it’s just times changing. But I didn’t think I could just close it without addressing it, hence this post.)
Here’s a Q&A-style rundown of all the information:
A: I started my Patreon almost three years ago, so times have obviously changed since then. It just doesn’t mesh with me now. I get busy quite often, and have periods of absence; I don’t like charging people monthly while I’m away and not drawing or posting anything. I know that there’s a “Charge per creation” setting, but that still doesn’t feel right for me.
I know that Patrons could simply unpledge if they were unhappy with how my Patreon worked, my absences, etc; no one was forcing them to stay pledged. But I just prefer to totally free everything up by closing it.
Q: What about the high-res images that used to be posted there? Where will they go?
A: I guess they won’t be posted anywhere. While I’m not opposed to the idea of posting them publicly, my internet upload speed is much too slow to do that on every site I upload to. I might also slightly up the resolution of the images I post everywhere, to help make up for the missing full-res ones. Commissioners will, of course, still personally receive full-res versions of their commissions when ordering.
Q: When is it happening? What do I have to do?
A: I’ll be slowly taking everything down over the course of a week. I’ll be removing my links to it from my profiles, making sure everyone knows what’s happening, then finally closing it. You don’t have to do anything: if you’re pledged, you can either remove your pledge now, or leave it to get removed automatically when the page is closed.
That should answer everything. Thank you to everyone who has pledged, both now and in the past; I really appreciate it. Again, I understand that this may look sudden and strange from the outside, but it’s a decision I’ve been thinking over for a while. I don’t want this to be a huge ordeal; it’s just a simple change.
