タイの首都、バンコク。若者たちが、何やら歌を歌いながら行進しています。聞こえてくるのは「ハム太郎」というワード。これは一体…？デモ参加者「これは『とっとこハム太郎』のテーマソングの替え歌です。『大好きなのはヒマワリの種』という歌詞を『大好きなのは納税者のお金』に置き換えている。『ヒマワリの種』と『納税者のお金』は韻を踏んでいて、税金を浪費している政府を風刺しています。」アニメ「とっとこハム太郎」のテーマソングにのせた、反政府デモだといいます。若者たちが訴えるのは、国会の解散、政府批判者への嫌がらせの中止、憲法改正という3つの要求。タイでは、軍主導の政治を継承する、プラユット政権への抗議活動が断続的に続いていますが、それがこうした独特な形に発展したワケとは… デモ参加者「大人たちは、『こんなことをしていたら真剣に受け止めてもらえない』と思うかもしれない。しかし、これは新しい世代のやり方だ。伝統的な抗議の方法に固執するのではなく、何かが変わることを期待して、違う方法でやっているのです」
