Her mother was a Nightsister and her father was a Nightbrother. Vyla has an older brother that she vaguely remembers — they look almost exactly alike.

Her father is a piece of shit and was rightfully put in his place by her mother. The man loathed the idea that the Jedi were going to take his daughter. Not because she was his daughter, but because she was his daughter. If that makes any sense. His ‘love’ for his kids was less about any actual feelings of parenthood and more about seeing them as his possessions.

Vyla’s older brother and her mother both called her ‘Little Star’, which is one of the few things from her childhood that she can recall. For this reason, Vyla has an engraving of a four-point star on one of her lightsabers.

Vyla’s mother was very reluctant to give her up to the Jedi order, but she would rather her go to the Jedi than the Sith (she remembered what happened to Mother Talzin’s boy, Maul. She wanted her child to go to someone better, and she figured the Jedi would be the best bet — especially because it was Plo Koon that found them).

Though Dathomir was a home more to the Dark Side of the Force than the Light, Vyla’s mother was a deeply… good individual. That’s not to say that the rest of her people weren’t, but she was an outcast in more ways than one. Just like Vyla herself.

Giving Vyla up to the Jedi was an act of protection and profound love. Vyla’s mother would be proud of the woman her daughter became. As would her older brother. They loved her deeply.

Vyla and her brother both look like their mother — but they inherited their horns from their father. Vyla has her momma’s eyes and smile. She has her brothers frown and his stubbornness.
