5-panel game serious!! Faded Royalty Shop @Faded_Royalty

The Faded Royalty shop is a bright surfacing from the surrounding restaurants, bars and graffiti, and take-out spots.

Inside I found a variety tops with bold and gritty designs and my favorite; 5-panel caps in mesmerizing patterns and contrasts.

Saraghina Brooklyn has it. Located on  the corner of Halsey and Lewis and conveniently 5 minutes from my apartment this place best touted for brick oven pizza also has a brunch menu to die for.

It’s not an exaggeration. I was recovering from the most wicked hangover of my life and then died again…

My head did explode

I saw some of the coolest art. I gave witnessed ambitious  live action web series, mixtapes, comic book collections, Cosplay, tee shirts, feature films and more . The event was filled with old, young, and in-between people who were interested in seeing their likeness in comic book form. It was an awesome place to bring family. There were even some youth artists and writers of the comic books. I’d never seen or heard of anything as collectively awesome as this. I pass panhandlers selling comic books on the street and every single cover is a white super hero. In this space the black audience and comic had their shine. Different stories can be told and new readers can be engaged. It made me realize how important it is that alternative versions of blackness exist. Those people are valid. The world has space for all of these things. Freaking fantastic.

I also learned a little about myself. I never knew I was so into comics! I even bought a few, and was enthralled by them the entire way home.  My only wish is that I had gotten there on time to take advantage of the panels and see the screenings.

But since I got to support black business and be exposed to a new art world, I walked away feeling completely inspired.
