You Can Always Hit Reset

I learned that you can form stones in your appendix and when you're least expecting it they will absolutely fuck you up and you'll have to have surgery and spend two weeks on the couch being forced to rest by the universe because something is either coming or you haven't rested enough. You'll probably learn which one it is at another inconvenient time in the future.

I also learned that if I strap some carbon fiber planks to my feet and throw myself down the mountain over and over, I'll actually feel like I'm both flying and sailing on the waves cascading down Hood's trails. And I'll love every second of it.

I'll learn that sometimes you drive 1200 miles in the space of five days and it's a whirlwind but you realize who your true family is and they're not related at all but they will ride at dawn and show up for you in ways you never thought possible.

I learned that the primal scream at sunset across the ocean while your children run in the sand before you is so cathartic you can't breathe.

I learned that if I just sit in the quiet before the whole house wakes up and let myself drop into my body, asking the question how is my heart, if I listen carefully the answer will drift up from the calm place in my chest that says we are more than fine we are emerging and we are at peace.
