The sun beats down, not that it seems to be bothering the summer courtiers much during the joint training. Even so Brango sighs heavily as they plop onto the grass in the shade to drink some water. They give a friendly smile and wave to Fray, inviting him to say hi if he wants.
Fray’s wiping his face off with a towel as he moves to join Brango, plopping down almost audibly and setting his wooden training axes on the grass beside himself.
“As glad as I am for the opportunity to train with people who I don’t know the rhythms and patterns of, it always seems much hotter when we train with you Summers.”
They blow a raspberry. “I don’t think I’m really a ‘grand goals’ type of person, I just want to live and be happy and have all the people I care about get to live and be happy. Which I guess is kinda a grand goal in the fucked up sort of way.” They laugh humorously and look out, staring past the sparring warriors and into the distance.
“I mean, I think...the fact that your way of going about this goal is to pick up a sword? That’s kind of grand, too. You know?” Fray favors Brango with a smile. “It’s noble.”
They laugh, clearly complimented. Then they sigh with a huff, and take another swig of water.
“You really think it’s noble, to fight?”
They’re not looking at him, and their tone is still the usual casual tone, even though this isn’t really an idle question asked in the shade of a tree on a summer’s day. A deep ethical question asked with the same tone as “what do you want for lunch?” and it seems like Brango’s listening for an answer.
“I think...choosing to act instead of being indifferent, in the face of a world that’s fuc--full of problems. That’s noble. Some of us do it by fighting. Some by healing. Some by creating safe spaces, or even creating art. You see a world where the people you care about can’t always live and be happy, and you’re choosing to do something, right? That’s noble.”
His response comes out just as serious as anything he ever says does.
They snort when he sensors himself, and nearly talk over him but stop themself and hold back until he’s finished talking to say “Bro you can swear I’m not gonna tell a teacher. But yeah, it’s about the choice to act then? I can get that, though it seems strange since nobility feels like such a shiny concept, when a fight is about hurting whoever or whatever you’re fighting badly enough that they stop trying to hurt you or anyone else. But I guess nobility is more about why we fight, not how we fight.”
They glance over at Fray, looking to see his expression.
