The original pitch for They Call Him: Marvelous back in 2007 - 2009.
It was originally going to be a 6 part miniseries that will introduce the titular character and the status quo of his universe.
Part 1: Marvelous is introduced as a fully established superhero as he breaks up a international human trafficking operation at the piers. While waiting for the police and medics to arrive, our hero begins to reminisce the time how he became a professional superhero and the special circumstances that came with it.
Part 2: In the flashback, recently discharged army ranger Malcolm Garfield (Marvelous’ alter ego) return from the military to join the police force where he meets his partner veteran policeman Bob Buchanan and have a slightly dysfunctional veteran/rookie relationship before Malcolm suffers a life changing incident at a swat raid inside a chemical plant.
Part 3: Picks up one year later, we learn that the life changing incident put Malcolm in a coma while the chemicals from the explosion went into his bullet wounds and straight to his bloodstream slowly changing his genetic makeup while being comatose, Malcolm eventually awoken from his coma and was greeted by his partner Bob and Dr. Hawkins but the happy reunion is short lived when a hired assassin named Gunpoint was paid to kill Malcolm but ultimately forced to flee when his would be target’s newfound abilities slowly kicking in and a chase then follows a brief but intense scuffle ensures until Gunpoint is forced to retreat. The police eventually find out who hired Gunpoint and went to bring him to justice.
Part 4: Malcolm makes the long walk to his sister and nephew’s home went he inadvertently prevented a rape attempt from a group of bikers which the highly appreciated neighbors give him a standing ovation and gives him the moniker of “Marvelous”. Malcolm manages to get to his sister’s place with the help of a bystander (me in a cameo). Once inside, he explains his sister what transpired to that and Glinda (in this version) decided to help him on his superhero journey by making him a costume and give him sound advice about being a true hero. Malcolm eventually leave his sister and nephew and confront his so-called assailants as they having a shootout with the police only to arrive just in time as the superhero “Marvelous”.
Part 5: Malcolm now called Marvelous give the police a helping hand as he slowly but steadily takes down a series of thugs from the first floor to the penthouse where….after taking down the last line of defense, Marvelous have a long awaited rumble with his three former friends. The fight was almost evenly matched a split second until the three enforcers’ boss Crimson Mask managed to subdue Marvelous with elephant tranquilizers and captured our hero.
Part 6: The final part of the miniseries commences as Crimson Mask plans to give Marvelous a bio-acid bath for interfering in the Crimson Nation’s affairs inside an different chemical plant but the police arrive and a final showdown commences as the police have a brawl with the Crimson Mask’s men on the ground level while Marvelous confront Crimson Mask and the Rogue Force on the catwalk in a 1 on 4 scuffle in which the hero slowly but eventually forces Crimson Mask and his three enforcers to make a tactical retreat leaving the rest of their people to surrender. While wrapping up the remaining miscreants, Bob, reveals to Marvelous, that he know who he is and decides not to tell the others and encourages to do the superhero thing which our hero consequently agrees but was asked to voluntarily resign from the force which he sadly but humbly did and became a private detective. Back in the present day, we see Marvelous watching from the short distance as he sees the traffickers being rounded up, the captives being treated, and Bob give a smirk of appreciation. With the situation is handled, Marvelous leaves the scene. The miniseries ends on a bittersweet note as Marvelous stands on an adjacent rooftop watching over the city as the miniseries comes to a close.
