Ni-ki didn't even blink when she reached down and cut the volume. He just tracked her with a lazy, heavy-lidded stare, his head tilted back against the mirror. When she shot his own cocky energy right back at him, mocking his "dramatic collapse", the corner of his mouth twitched. "I'm conserving energy," he retorted, his voice cutting easily through the newly quieted room as he watched her walk back to her bag. "You should try it instead of wasting your breath. God knows your stamina's going to need all the help it can get if you're planning on dancing with me." He watched her start her stretches, noticing the sudden, telltale stillness in her shoulders. Then the studio door flew open. The choreographer burst in, loud and scattered, throwing around words like intense, trust, and chemistry. The absolute irony of it was almost too good. Ni-ki didn't let the tension show. Instead, he smoothly pushed himself up from the hardwood floor, his posture shifting instantly into the picture-perfect professional. He offered the choreographer a flawless, polite bow, the respectful greeting completely contradicting the wicked, malicious smirk he shot Gawon the second he straightened back up. "Don't worry about us," he said, his voice smooth, dripping with a dark, sarcastic playfulness. "Our chemistry is amazing. Right, Grinchy?"
"Fantastic! Love the enthusiasm," the choreographer chirped, completely oblivious to the undercurrents as he tapped open a tablet. "Come take a look at the demo tape. We want to capture a very mature, magnetic pull between you two."
Ni-ki strolled over, sliding his hands back into his sweatpant pockets. He casually stepped up to the choreographer's right side, leaning his tall frame over slightly to look down at the screen. The opening bars of the track played, and the dancers on screen executed a sharp, syncopated intro. It was clean, intricate, but entirely within his wheelhouse. Easy, he thought, a slight, confident humph leaving his nose. He could probably mark the entire first half of the routine on his first try. But then the beat dropped. And the tone shifted. The choreo suddenly went from technical to fluid, heavy, and intensely provocative. It wasn't just standard partner work; it was an explicit, body-to-body routine filled with slow, lingering thuds, close-proximity floor work. Ni-ki tried to swallow, completely caught off guard, and ended up choking on his own saliva. He let out a sudden cough, hacking into his elbow as his face instantly flushed a furious, involuntary red. He straightened up fast, abandoning his casual lean, and stared at the tablet like it had just threatened his life. All his cool, nonchalant arrogance evaporated in a split second. "Hold on," he gasped out, clearing his throat roughly, his eyes wide as he pointed a defensive finger at the screen. "Whoa, whoa. I'm not doing that."
