Nathalie: I want you to keep me updated Santos. If he's tracking the egg we need to find out how, where it is, and get it back now.

Dallas: I second the know angering armed people thing

Dallas: Now who has literally anything for me to do that doesn't involve me being in a room with a dead body because there's literally nothing in here

Sab: At least we got some more weapons. 

Sab: Anything strange about the body?

Omar: Not anything unexpected really

Omar: Managed to get a few more weapons off body #2 but not much else

Sab: Let me know what you find on the second body.

Sab: If you’re free shortly though I want back up to go meet with one of the terrorists. 

Khalid: I can just imagine your face right now

Khalid: It’s glorious

Khalid: I think of luck presenting me opportunities to take. It helps that my job is literally to get into these situations. 

Omar: Stop imagining my face you creep

Omar: Guess who's on 'check the corpses for items' duty

Omar: I'm headed to check out body #2. Found a gun and a clip on the last one so I figure it can't hurt

Scout felt a sense of hopelessness worse than usual wash over her, and she resisted the urge to laugh at Omar’s curse. Too much was happening and there were no artificial walls to hide behind, for her to pull up, for her to attack with, nothing that held back reality with a really long sharp pointy stick. No, right now, it was just her, and Athena, and Omar, and a dead body.

The severity of the situation slammed into Scout as she slid flat onto the roof, then started to scan her own messages. “Yeah, off the rood, a flat roof, nice for the heat, and apparently snipers. Just to let you know, you’re going to have to throw me before I can do anything spidery on the side. All my strength is for typing, not climbing. Or punching. Or anything exercised based.”

She quickly glanced behind her, waiting to see Athena’s head pop out onto the roof, to join them in hiding with a dead body as a manhunt was being released downstairs. (How long would it take them to realise that one of their own was dead? How long might it take the crews?)

Athena barely refrained from cursing when the radio sounded off. She was climbing the ladder when it sounded the first time and had just fished it out to silence it when it rang out again. Just in time with the crisp footsteps moving down the hall beside the door. There was no way they didn’t hear that. She muted her own radio, before climbing up the ladder the rest of the way to talk to Scout and Omar. “We have to go now. Someone definitely just heard the radio, and there’s no way to explain ourselves here with the dead body. We should double check that no one’s on this floor right now with the others and run down the stairs as soon as we have confirmation.”

Her voice barely rose above a whisper, but the lack of control here, the helplessness she felt with her situation, none of it sat well with the organized planner that she was. How could she possibly have envisioned this scenario for herself when they started this job? She was meant to be a valet. A driver. Not someone trying to escape from a room she didn’t belong in. Stupid fucking egg. Stupid damn job. Fuck terrorism and Jules LaCroix and EVERYTHING.

Her mind raced to fix problems that she had never planned for. Thinking on her feet was not her strong suit, that’s why she tried to guess every eventuality well ahead of time. “Rahal, if there’s a radio on the stiff, can you pass it to me? Whoever checks in here is going to need to verify that something made that sound. If we leave the hatch open and put the radio on the channel I was just on and lay it on the floor at full volume, then maybe when they check, they can believe that the radio just fell during the struggle or whoever killed the sniper listened to it then discarded it.” Having said that, and trying not to have a full blown panic attack, Athena shakily began climbing down the ladder. Once she reached the bottom, she pressed her ear to the door to make sure she could hear if anyone was passing or talking.

“Thank fucking god,” Omar muttered under his breath when he uncovered the gun tucked on the man’s body. It wasn’t much, but it was a fuck of a lot better than the knives he had on him. He felt significantly better now that he was armed up with more than one weapon. It felt a little more like he was back in his own skin again, more himself. Like it or not, he felt better while armed. He quickly checks that the gun is fully loaded and ready to go before slipping it into his back pocket.

He wipes the blood off his hands onto the guard’s uniform--the less questions the better really. It was all about mitigating the undoubted impending disaster. He shoved the headset at Scout. “Put this on. Under your hair. Now. Maybe if we keep a radio on us, we can use it to listen in. You can conceal it easier than I can.” He looks down to see Athena joining them suddenly. What a fucking time for a roof party. He liked it better when things were just his own crew and they didn’t get themselves into this kind of shit. All he wanted right now was to know Sabina and Khalid would be safe. And maybe Parker too...but the others had to take priority. 

The moment Omar felt the weight of the body, he knew something was wrong. There’d been no tension, no fight, no push back. When his hand came back slick with blood, all he could do was stare down at the corpse. It was a blessing to not have to take another life. But it meant there was someone here who would. And if they would take out Lacoix’s mercenaries, then they wouldn’t hesitate to take out the rest of the crews. Suddenly he itched to be by Sabina’s side. She needed to be protected at all costs. Any costs. No matter what they were.

But suddenly the hatch was opening. He spun in an instant, his arm already reaching to toss the cleaver in his hand. His knuckles only just managed to keep it in hand when he realized it was Scout. A Pakistani swear slipped between bitter lips. “Jesus at least give some warning.” Omar sighed at the body underneath them, shaking his head. “This is a fucking shit show.”

Before he knew it, his phone was blaring with updates. Now the roof wasn’t even safe for them. They needed to regroup and they needed to do so quickly. He bent down to search the corpse to see if there was anything else of use on the body. “I’ve got two knives on me. Hopefully he’s got something else so we can arm ourselves. But we need to get off this roof sooner rather than later. And unfortunately, bringing the rifle with us will do more harm than good.” He looked back at the metallic machinery that he knew all too well would feel like a second skin to him. It was a shame to leave it here, especially when he could have used it--and used it well. But it would draw too much attention. Getting themselves past the guards would be hard enough. Walking in with an automatic weapon would only make things that much more difficult.

Jack: fuck

Jack: were gone for a fuckin hour and jfc everything goes to shit wtf

Jack: the egg guardians (egguardians? egguards?) are dead. finished. kaput. hasta la vista. no guards and no egg.

Jack: oH ALSO marguerite is jules. jules is juliet. makes me feel kinda weird bc shes super hot. also very very scary. like murderous. is it weird that that turns me on? she could hold a knife to my throat and id say thank u at this point.

Jack: some shit went down while we were in there bc the egg is gone and ppl are dead so yall better kno more than we do bc this is fUCKED

Mickey: and here i was, rdy to serve all this good wine for dinner

Mickey: well then let’s make a move for thugs. some killer(s?) are wandering loose, maybe same guys that took out Omar’s sniper. gotta stay on our toes

Mickey: I say we play it like Clue. assign search areas and ppl to question so we aren’t stumbling all over each other. we already know some folks aren’t after our necks, maybe they’ll be helpful

Mickey: oh yea... and preferably do this shit fast cos I doubt whoever offed the mercs and snatched the Egg is gonna hang around for the lulz

Scout: Any ideas to get three people off the roof with the dead body? With the only exist the service door that they're probably gonna check and we can't get through?

Scout: If I sound calm it means my training is going well.

Via: Can you like, throw him off the roof into some bushes and then inconspicuously come down one at a time?

Khalid: Could work, but I think leaving the body is the better option.

Khalid: They always check the roof. Just depends on when.

Mickey: well i'm coming up from the basement with four bottles of wine and it sounds like a herd of wildebeest are trampling over Mufasa's dead body

Mickey: maybe i should just stay down here

Mickey: are those the mercs? what's going on up there?

Madi: I am in the main dining room rn with Rhi and Nat. Isabela just entered, followed by a bunch of very intimidating looking mercs. Two of them dragged another guy with them who looked in pretty bad shape, blood and all. They went into the direction of the kitchens, I think ...

Madi: The other mercs separated it seems, two of them stayed here while Isabela barks out orders.

Madi: She is heading upstairs ...

Athena: Where we are. Great. I'm still by the door, Scout is up by Omar on the roof with a dead sniper.

Athena: Would it be totally wild for us to just... Mission Impossible shimmy down the side of the building into another window or something?

Nathalie: We are not Mission Impossibling down the side of the building.

Nathalie: Everyone focus on keeping your stories straight. Do NOT break cover unless you think it will save your ass and even then...

Nathalie: We do what Fitz says. Split up and search. Do NOT go anywhere alone. The egg is here. For now. We have to find it.

Nathalie: Got it?

Omar: I second that we are NOT scaling down the walls just for outside security to shoot us

Backstory:

Omar was obsessed with magic long before he knew the wizarding world even existed. It was just something that called to him since birth. Maybe his mother, who died before he could get to know her was a squib or left her magic behind. Omar will never know. He was just drawn to magic and spells and old books with potions for as long as he could remember. His father and step mother never understood it. They still don’t, but that little envelope that arrived on his eleventh birthday changed everything. At Hogwarts he’s found a home, he’s found purpose, he’s found people like him. Things aren’t always easy for him here--they never are for a Mudblood--but it’s light years better than the muggle world is for him. Ever since walking in the doors, he’s become enthralled in learning all there is to know about the Dark Arts--they fascinate him, whether or not he would ever use them. Even if most people think that the gruff born-Beater ought to have been sorted into Slytherin, this is where he’s found his home. He’s going to do anything he can to stay in it the rest of his life.
