The Sound of Music, Revisited The following is my own take on the song "My Favorite Things" by Rogers and Hammerstein. *** Sunbeams and moonbeams And firelight and foxes, Oak leaves and acorns And knit woolen sockses, The glory of autumn With flames on her wings; These are a few of my favorite things. *** Cider and donuts With cinnamon topping, Hayrides and bonfires And popcorn for popping, The hum in the air when the gusting wind sings; These are a few of my favorite things. *** Through the dark night, When the daylight Brings heart-aches, oh, so sad, I simply remember my favorite things, And then I don't feel so bad. *** Maine Coons and raccoons And Golden Retrievers, Echoes through mountains From hymns of believers, The chill on the fingers from frost as it stings; These are a few of my favorite things. *** Flannels and plaids and Goldfinches on thistles, Hair that whips free in the wind As it whistles, Wild swirling leaves that the Autumn gale brings; These are a few of my favorite things. *** Through the dark night, When the daylight Brings heart-aches, oh, so sad, Simply remember your favorite things, And then you won't feel so bad. *** S.
