"Mailman comin'." (Dewey loves "The Wire", hates the USPS.)
Good tries.
At the Union Station Bubble Hotel.
There's days, both good and bad, on which I'd like to hang this tag.

This is why I had to quit my office job. Ā I canāt tell you how existential it got there at the end. Ā But I doubt that a book of youth poetry could have helped.

America, you are seriously messed up. Ā There are so many layers of cruelty in this itās unbelievable. Ā Even the children are terrifying at this spectacle because how could anyone not be.Ā
In honor of the children killed at a park in Lahore today, consider preserving the right to play for other children in Pakistan, and around the world. šµš° www.righttoplay.com (Photo of adorable Pakistani girls from the Right To Play website.)

Sunnier days on İstiklal. "Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars... Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Oh, Turkey, I love you so. Please take care of each other. š¹š· Peace in Ankara.
I have no clue what this painting at the @stlartmuseum is actually called. I call it "Baloney Man" and I think it's utterly ridiculous and could very well be its only fan. Usually Baloney Man is hidden away somewhere on 3, but now he's on the first floor of the museum, right by a door so everyone can see just how ridiculous he is. Prime placement! Yay Baloney Man!
Monet's art and its floral counterpart - Charing Cross Bridge brought to life in flowers by Melinda Roeleveld at Les Bouquets. Another stunning example of the beauty at Art in Bloom. If you have time this weekend, do go. It's truly lovely.
Today's Filter Free Forest Park shot is one of my favorite arrangements from my morning romp through the Art in Bloom exhibit at @stlartmuseum I've never gotten up early for flowers, but I'm so glad I did.

Today's style inspiration.
Maybeeās Great Adventure
If youāve been following Maybeeās adventures here, you undoubtedly already know a lot about her. You know from her sweet face and her gentle eyes and her inquisitive smile that she truly was a dog like no other.Ā
So itās with a mix of profound sadness and gratitude that I interrupt her photo stream to let you know that she died yesterday. Ā Ā
If youāre thinking āWhat? How? Not possible,ā and all the other questions, I assure you I am thinking the same. What I will tell you is that she died quickly and quietly in my arms, without pain or suffering. She was a sweet, tough, resilient girl to the end and she leaves a void that feels bottomless. Ā Ā
Now thatās the end of the sad news, because thereās so much more happy stuff. Thereās all the stuff about her Iām grateful for and that I think tells us a little about ourselves and our lives.Ā
Maybee showed up over 11 years ago, a tiny animal stuffed into a Christmas stocking. She jumped onto the floor and immediately became the boss of everyone. Over the years, she transformed from a feisty stubborn girl to the sweet, smart, and loving best friend that she was. She was game for a move across town and then a move across the country. She saw me through a divorce and the death of her sweet brother just a few months ago. I couldnāt begin to count the trips and hikes and runs and adventures weāve taken together. No matter whatās come and gone, Maybee was always there. She was the constant in my life, and that loyalty suited her personality perfectly.
Did I desperately pray she would suddenly get better? Of course. Do I still believe in miracles even though she didnāt? Unequivocally. I know without a doubt that heaven and earth intersect. I know that because she helped me to see the tiny miracles and beauty in the every day. Ā Ā
She taught me how to love.Ā
She taught me sometimes you need to stop and smell something.Ā
And sometimes you need to run really really fast through the woods with a smile on your face.Ā
She taught me that being greeted when you come home from a trip is the best thing ever.Ā
She taught me that you should always eat dinner at the same time, as the sun sets.Ā
Ā She taught me that sometimes, when you really love someone, all you can do is stare at them.Ā
She taught me that we need each other - that having loving friends and family make everything better.Ā
She taught me that sometimes you have to have a tea party with a little girl, and if she punches you in the face thatās just part of it. Always be gentle.Ā
She taught me to be curious and interested in things, even if youāve seen them before.Ā
She taught me that sometimes you should spend the afternoon just lying around.Ā
And now, sheās teaching me how to let go, how to be grateful for the time we have.Ā
Sheās teaching me that sadness and doubt and gratitude can all live together.Ā
Sheās teaching me that showing up matters. Sometimes itās all you can do.Ā
Is it worth it, you wonder? Is losing such an amazing creature and friend so suddenly worth the sadness?Ā
Absolutely.Ā
Itās in death that we learn to really know life. Itās in sadness that we can fully appreciate joy.Ā
Today, consider doing something for Maybee. If you have a pet, hug it. Or if you have a person, greet them with kindness and a smile when they come home. Go for a walk and notice how pretty it is outside. Ask yourself when you last took a day off and truly lived life. Slow down. Be gentle with your people. Love well.Ā
Our days are indeed numbered. May we all find the abundance of life that sometimes we can only learn from a dog.
