Jan Walker, founder and owner of Sunny’s Energy center, a macrobiotics and health food store in Jackson in the late 1970s. In 1978 she went to Amherst to study under Lima Ohsawa, widow of George Ohsawa who was the founder of macrobiotics. She also studied at the Kushi Institute. I’m not sure if all her studies in Boston were all part of the same thing or different programs devoted to macrobiotics. She returned to Jackson and a few years later became director of the East-West Center. While in that position, she would travel the world talking about macrobiotics.
