as women become more bold, men become more insecure and lash out at any woman they can’t control to keep the rest of us in line. this dynamic doesn’t change no matter what qualifiers you slap on them.
You should read Backlash by Susan Faludi.

“Why is it that, when I say, “gender is a caste system,” people hear death threats? Why, when I say “only females have the right to define femalehood,” do people react with rage? Radical feminists are often accused of violence. Some transactivists go as far as to say we “have blood on our hands.” Again, this is a censorship tactic. Accusing radical groups of violence is the easiest way to demonize them, and make everyone turn against them. That is the sole function of the label “TERF.” The harsh reality is that virtually all transphobic hate crimes are committed by males. Not radical feminists, not gender abolitionist women — males. Males who have never even heard of radical feminism! So I want everyone who’s fallen for this anti-radfem fear-mongering to think long and hard about the implications of this censorship campaign. When we silence the women who call out male violence, rather than confront the actual males committing the violence, we fail to make the world safer for trans people. We fail them miserably. Protecting trans people from transphobic hate crimes can only happen once we stop blaming females for inciting male violence, and start Naming the Agent instead.”
— Radical Feminist Alicen Grey
Oh Alicen we’re really in it now
I feel that the idea of being penetrated is so married to having a vagina, perhaps even more so than femininity and femaleness are. people cannot conceive of a woman who just doesn’t want to be entered by anything (toys, fingers and tongue included) without it making her sexually dysfunctional in some way.
no one bats an eye if a man says he doesn’t want to be penetrated or have his nipples touched or something. of course, that’s natural, he’s a man. but when a woman says it, it’s weird and wrong, because she’s a woman, of course she must desire sex in that way.
I feel it’s just another layer of biological essentialism/determinism in the same way that “women must be naturally feminine and any deviation therefrom is dysfunctional” is.

I feel so insane about ai. I've had face-to-face conversations with people who use it for therapy, who use it to calculate the safety of pill interactions, who use it for all their emails and grant applications and legal documents and academic papers and finance sheets and for every single question they have about the world, and if you tell them about the ecological costs they just laugh and say "I guess I've used a lot of water." and I've been in multiple gatherings of 10+ people where I'm THE ONLY PERSON who doesn't use chatgpt. it's turning me into a ranting raving pariah, because how don't you people see??? why don't you understand??????? this bullshit didn't exist five years ago, you absolutely do not need it, and it is destroying everything
almost everything men say they love about their culture is actually reliant on the labour of women. that’s why it’s so easy for them to feel proud and protective over it. taking care of elders and not putting them in care homes? the care is always done almost exclusively by female family members. the yummy traditional food? cooked by women. the fun events and gatherings? organised and hosted by the women. men love taking credit for their culture but in reality they barely participate in the actual hard work, they just get to sit back and enjoy all the benefits of it. it’s a scam 🤷🏻♀️
women are the creators of culture forever and always. who created the stories the told to their children? came up with the songs they sang? who invented those recipes? how many times has innovative art or music or writing been stolen from women by men? hairstyles? women. fashion? maybe the companies are run by men, but it's still women driving innovation. events and gatherings? women. who's making those traditions happen? women.
it's always been women.
i've always believed the fixation on 'mean girls' specifically is because it's a violation of gender roles first and foremost--a 'mean boy' in high school is a regular high schooler. the internet isn't ready for this take yet though so be careful
Everyone woman who wants kids, specifically sons, or a husband should be required to volunteer at a senior women's center or a homeless women's shelter at least 5 times.
You'll notice that almost all of the women there have husbands, boyfriends, brothers, and sons. They are not being taken care of by husbands who kept them from education, they are not supported by boyfriends who are unemployed, they are dealing with property disputes with brothers, they are taking care of adult sons in their 20s/30s. Women with adjacent adult men in their lives are almost exclusively doing worse off than women without.

hate defending (real) terrible women because people just go “so you think she did nothing wrong just because she’s a woman?” like no i think she’s awful but i also think you wouldn’t be calling her a cunt and making rape threats if she wasn’t a woman
Imagine being married to one of the most beautiful women on earth and trying to reduce her value to cooking and cleaning and being a mother. Men don't want partners in life they want housekeepers.
Men actively seek out independent women to try and chain them to the house and tie them down and trap them with unplanned kids they don’t really want
Men actively seek out liberal/leftist women and try and influence them towards the center then even further towards republican/conservatism
Men actively seek out atheist/agnostic women and try and get them to join or convert to their religion
Men actively seek out lesbians and female leaning bisexuals and try to turn them straight
Men love nothing more than pushing women’s boundaries, making us uncomfortable, not taking no for an answer, feeling like they’ve somehow won or conquered a woman, changed her or dominated her in a meaningful way
lefties will say the best thing for sex workers is to open brothels and legalize it and then when you point out how countries that have brothels have high rates of sex trafficking and rape, they have genuinely nothing to say in return. unless its to center themselves and say that their barista job is basically the same as rape
"Making vanilla bean cafe lattes is the same thing as being anally raped by 6 strangers a day" is really when I realised all seriousness, morality and intellectualism had vacated left-wing ideaologies.
they're still arguing about surrogacy on twitter
the reason surrogacy warrants particular scrutiny, aside the fact that its roots are literally chattel slavery lol, is that it is a contractual arrangement premised on the basically total surrender of bodily autonomy. it transforms a human body into a site of continuous, high risk labor with consequences that cannot be paused or meaningfully mitigated
can a surrogate safely "quit" in any real sense? can they safely get an abortion? can they quit after 4 months? can they quit after 9 months? do they get to clock out after 40 hours a week? do they get breaks? do they get a union?
in what world is it a leftist position to defend 24/7 labor
#SmokeBreaksForSurrogates
its a leftist position to fight for bodily autonomy, the right to choose includes the right to not be pregnant, as well as the right to get pregnant. This same argument about "protecting workers" often argues against sex work, saying women dont deserve the right to choose what labor they want to provide when it goes against someone else's ideals. Surrogates deserve to be protected, but that doesnt mean they deserve to have the choice taken away from them
If you want to read more from someone who has experience being a surrogate you can read this speech
Surrogacy as motherhood - the autonomous decision to bear a baby and hand it to someone else to parent. The act of surrogacy is love and car
When we limit a woman’s right to choose to be a surrogate, we are assuming that she lacks the capacity or intelligence to make the decision for herself. A choice to be a surrogate must be offered freely and without coercion. If we argue that the risks of surrogacy are too high, we are removing the decision-making power from the woman and assuming that she doesn’t know what is best for herself or her family. And yet, the women who are surrogates are better informed of the risks and consequences than anyone else.
@iam-the-wild i think your heart is in the right place, but that you’re really missing the point
You’re looking at this from a perspective of pro-choice reproductive rights on the women’s part, which is good in general but is not the actual problem we’re discussing with surrogacy
It’s not choosing to be a surrogate that’s wrong, those women are either desperate or trying to do something kind. it’s the intent to pay another human being to rent their reproductive capacity that is wrong - no one needs a child that is biologically theirs, and only people with a slave owner mentality think its their right to buy one
Surrogacy is not a right or freedom that needs to be protected, it’s an act of reproductive and economic exploitation, and even when it is a choice freely made and compensated for (which it very often is not, in many places it is coerced or even forced, and it is always underpaid) the women involved face a tremendous physical risk to their bodies and their lives
Pregnancy is a nine month long 24/7 full body experience that is one of the most dangerous things you can do. Maternal mortality rights are on the rise and higher now than they’ve been in decades. There is always the very real chance of disability or death for women who carry to term, no matter how slim
With the harm it can cause in mind, much like the nordic model that criminalizes buying sex but not selling it, surrogacy should absolutely be harshly restricted. You shouldn’t be able to legally inflict the harm of pregnancy on a person for money, and it should be a crime to try and do so. Consent can’t be meaningfully purchased.
And I think your argument really falls apart even more in the second half
Because I’m not by any means saying women aren’t smart enough or capable enough to be able to make the choice to be surrogates. I’m saying those choices are not made in a vacuum, and are rarely as truly voluntary as they would like you to believe. People knowingly make decisions against their best interests and well being every single day. We restrict things that cause great harm not because we think people are too stupid to know better, but to protect them from people who don’t care about their safety. This is basics of society level stuff, laws and order and public health and welfare.
Anyone who wants to can make the choice to do hardcore party drugs or drink and drive or do target practice in your back yard, but those things are illegal because they can literally kill you.
Furthermore It’s illegal to buy someone’s organs on the black market, even if you really need a kidney and they’re willing to sell you one. It’s also illegal to keep someone as a slave and not pay them for their work, even if they don’t seem to mind it and wouldn’t try to escape. It’s illegal to sell crack to addicts, even if they feel like they need it more than anything.
If women really want to make money off of their reproductive capacity, im sure there are still many places in the world where they would be able to do so and people would be willing to look the other way to purchase a child, no matter how unethical and harmful it would be to both the mother and the baby.
No matter where you go there are always people willing to hurt women for money

we should bring back she/her as the generic pronoun
im not joking btw im talking about how it used to be pretty common for communist writers to use she/her to refer to a generic worker/person/etc as a #feminist thing. it's more common to use gender-neutral language now but the problem is people are still constantly assuming that the default person is male, even when non-gendered language is used. she/her at least has the effect on the reader of like, giving them a stern look and saying "remember women exist". anyway i want us to bring this back
and before anyone gets silly, no it's not misgendering people who don't use she/her, unless you believe all the cis male writers who did/do this also believe that Everyone On Earth Is A Woman. it's a political writing choice
does anyone have that post about OSHA compliant sex work? something about a dude who shows up to a guy's house in full ppe to give him a dry handjob
