ok i kind of see the vision for that different ending and mine is spitting

#i was hoping for Something like this #kiryu getting stabbed at the end of 3 has Always been stupid as fuck imho #i think it was a very shortsighted decision to conclude hamazaki's part in the story like that #and i have absolutely no love for yakuza 4 so i wouldnt have given a shit about the domino effect #i think they could very easily still keep his part in saejima's story with some explanation of him being undercover But.#that would certainly lessen the emotional impact of his bond with saejima. which honestly. idk if we're losing much with that #to me the sourest part By Far is that it gives hamazaki a bigger upcoming role #and the refusal to recast him is obviously a Lasting problem #more personally i hate that this splits timelines BECAUSE of the decision to make original 3 less accessible by delisting #along with not changing Enough to make playing both 3 and k3 all that worthwhile #i cant imagine how confusing this would be for newcomers #going from k3 to original 4 no longer Works and yet kiwami and its sequel are all canon to infinite wealth #it wouldve been nice if it was a plan to reimagine the story from the beginning starting with 0 and moving into the kiwami games #but as it stands it seems like you can no longer play yakuza 1 and 2 without supplemental material AND #you can't recommend kiwami 3 to replace original 3 #anyway i think its funny i said mostly the same shit in prev post's tags without having seen this scene #infinite wealth and gaiden do cover this but i wouldnt say its anywhere near as explicit #🗣️🔥

kazama sucks

#it's mostly just that kiryu is finally willing to challenge kazama's legacy in some way #and this can be done without much of the other baggage that has typically encased it #the fact that kiryu has shed his identity is allowing this #but he's still brainwashed in the sense that #i think he has always known or at least had his doubts #but what kazama actually represents to him now is less about the man he really was and more like #kiryu's own version of his ideal self #but that ideal is no longer applicable because kiryu is no longer tojo chairman nor yakuza nor orphanage director #he has regretted going against kazama's wishes for him since he fled from that responsibility in y1 #and i think infinite wealth was him realizing that he has 'selfish' desires to wrap up loose ends that are Truly for his sake #whether to assuage guilt or to ~atone~ or whatever #he has been justifying and making up for his decision to leave the tojo with running his own orphanage #to see that kazama while Obviously imperfect could have been a hell of a lot worse if he'd Wanted to be #i think it puts them on the same level in kiryu's mind in a way #the defensiveness and blind faith kiryu has displayed in the past for kazama has dulled #he's actually able to Blaspheme against him and yet he still doesn't go as far as (i think) he should #but i think this is because he can't claim to be better than him #it comes across as more of a mutual respect than idolization #hopefully this is coherent 👍#it's been a while since ive played gaiden

nothing to really say here except these have very different vibes. i feel like the line from the original version (top) is sorta harsh and self deprecating compared to the remastered.

#i see. i see original loc's nuance being sanded down #in remastered (the trilogy) kiryu's voice and character have noticeably been made. more self assured #in a way that i believe is Because its being done with a cemented view of kiryu that he doesn't even have of himself #affected by certainty that (at the time) could only come from knowing where his story ended & knowing how he eventually admits to feeling #this line in remastered ends up being contradictory to the state of mind we know kiryu is in during 5. it's almost too revealing #he doesn't believe he's done all he can for haruka or the kids at all. i dont even know he could pretend that was true #he has however 'convinced himself' (constantly lying to himself) that he is no longer needed and is holding everyone back #he's obviously still attached to his ~job~ and his kids but he has to tell himself it's benefiting them because he Wants to go back #it's more of a. this is what Needs to be done for their sake. while neglecting his own feelings on the matter #so both the implication hes not cut out for fatherhood and the followup of it being fated to end are in line with this mindset he's adopted #'playing the role of a father' ie. it's a performance and against his nature to do anything other than destroy lives #BECAUSE he feels he has failed #im not certain he did every one of kiryu's substories but. this does seem to be affected by jon's view of kiryu #similar to yakuza 3 remastered and the way he changed things surrounding kiryu's relationship with the kids #id have to look at the original line in japanese but overall it has the effect of.... glazing kiryu #in a way that makes him into a more comfortably Better Father #things that could have been avoided if the loc team weren't forced to play broken telephone and re-interpret the english loc #rather than being allowed the time and budget to fully relocalize from japanese #hm.#yakuza 5
