Team Avatar gets captured, and it is not the end of the world but it is still an experience unpleasant and unkind. Katara grits her teeth and she does not grin but she does bear it.
âLife isnât fair, Katara,â Sokka had told her once, eyes hard and knowing and caring and real, and she had tasted a challenge on her tongue and decided you couldn't know unless you tried.
Because listen, listen, her kindness is not in her predisposition, it is an effort and a battle all to its own, and she will fight for her right to live in a world of her own making with her every breath. Her core is made of ice as hard as steel. She is not a blessing- she is a warrior, and if you think she will stand to be knocked down or belittled or broken you have never been more wrong.
Life has never been fair but Katara will never stop trying to make it so. This is not soft or naive or an illusion of bravery, this is a strength, and it is hers, it is hers, it is hers.

OR: Aang is grieving, Sokka is a good big brother, and he's not sure what he thinks of this crazy kid who's suddenly turned his life upside down, but he's gonna try and take care of him anyways.

Aang lifted his head, blinking at a rather tall aye-aye that stood on its hind legs, upright and bipedal. Like a human. Its gigantic yellow eyes were boring into him, observing him with outright judgement. It tapped one of its long, spindly fingers on its pointed chin.
âThese humans are making you work for it. You should be outside! Enjoying nature! You look like you need a bath too! Did you forget to wash again?â

He thought he was so much, Zuko thinks, his eyes never leaving the tapestry. He thought he would be remembered for something great.
âWhen Fire Lord Sozin started the war,â Zuko says, voice surprisingly firm, âhe destroyed every piece of history that came before him. He rebuilt the Fire Nation under his image, and by doing that, he rebuilt what qualified as truth. He erased everything he considered weak, everything that could be interpreted as a wrongdoing or a failure. It didnât fit with his narrative of our country. He thought that by destroying the shame of the past, heâd guarantee the glory of the future. And he was wrong.â Zuko takes a deep breath. âI donât want to make the same mistake as him.â
Or, what it means to make history. Featuring Toph's enthusiasm for destroying property, Aang being allowed to have negative emotions, and Zuko figuring out life.
Leaves in the Wind
âThere is this one festival that the Fire Nation used to do,â he started. âIt was a happy time when people would celebrate their ancestors. Gyatso and I ran into Kuzon while we went to buy a lantern,â Aang said with a smile.
âFire is life,â said Zuko.
Aang furrowed his brows, something flashing in his memory that could not have been his own. It was like something distant, something familiar. He imagined for a second that he was an older man standing on the banks of a different winding tributary. Beside him was his beautiful wife, Ta Min, and his two children. He saw himself hold onto a lantern of his own, but this one was white. He used a finger to spark a flame and let it go onto the water.
Or, after the war the Fire Nation offers reparations to the three nations. Aang remembers that there used to be a fourth one.

Itâs almost like whispering. Like itâs waiting for me. But for waterbending, Gyatso said it was like a wave, lapping at your spirit. Justââ
âJust under your skin,â Katara completes, quietly. She closes her hand into a fist in front of her. âLike humming."
Aang smiles brightly, nodding. âYeah! You feel it, then? The rain?â
Katara nods. âI just didnât know it was a waterbending thing. I thought it was a me thing.â
âWhatâs the difference?â Aang asks.
She opens her mouth. Closes it again. âI donât know,â she says, finally. âI guess there isnât.â
Or, Katara lives happily ever after. Or she lives happily. Or she just lives. Featuring sleepless nights, holding history on your shoulders, and Sokka being a good big brother.

Before Zuko can swim to shore after Pirates blow up his ship, he is fished out of the water by the pirates themselves. Intending to hold Zuko ransom against Zhao for a bigger payment.
Whilst Zuko is held captive the pirates decide to take on a second job of raiding the Southern Water Tribe ship, this is where the story begins.

Zuko's first impression of Sokka, the son of the rival force's Chief, is that he is reckless, loud, brash, and unfailingly honest. He's nothing like any of the members of court that Zuko has met before. Zuko... likes it more than he should.
Sokka's first impression of Crown Prince Zuko is that he's cold, calculating, and moves through his own court like it's a battlefield full of enemies instead of allies. Sokka is unwillingly intrigued.
As they navigate the treacherous currents of court politics, secrets, and the occasional assassination attempt, Sokka and Zuko's connection deepens - first through sharp honesty, then through trust, and finally into something neither of them can afford. But with duty pulling them apart and expectations of the future threatening to drown them, they must decide whether to fight against the current - or let it carry them somewhere neither of them expected.

Thinking about the strict etiquette around hair in the fire nation, especially the fact that the only people allowed to touch your hair in public are close family.,, thinking about sokka who keeps ruffling zukoâs hair or giving him little braids just because. Zuko who keeps letting him do whatever he wants and wears the little blue beads for DAYS, never bothering to inform sokka about the rules bc it means that then he will stop. And for some reason he just canât accept that. (Etiquette is dumb anyway.) Once sokka absentmindedly tucked a strand of hair behind Zukoâs ear in front of the whole council and a crusty old noble had a stroke (good.) Everyone thinks they must be courting. the rumors are insane. Meanwhile sokka & zuko are still stuck in the âoblivious idiotâ stage of the 50000k slow burn romance, blissfully ignoring the fact that by fire nation standards theyâre already boning in front of everyoneâs salads.
