โYeah? Y-you sure?โ Dazai hums, placing another kiss on his loverโs lips, and Chuuya canโt help but give a small smile. โIโll let you fall asleep first. Youโre in good hands,โ Dazai teases once more, and Chuuya canโt help but give him a playful nudge and nod his head. He knows Dazaiโs right.
โYouโre an idiot, but okay.โ Chuuya gives a soft chuckle before rolling over and closing his eyes once more. โYou better not wake me.โ

I wondered what I would make of this prompt for a while, but now that I think about it, I know exactly what it wants. And so, my dearest Ghost, are you ready to venture into dangerous territory? Don't let fear rattle your bones.

Mother Knows Best
โOh, but you thought you could have it all, didnโt you?โ She laughed. She cackled hard into the broken mirror, a chill running down his spine as he took shaky breaths to steady his rattling heart.
His head remained bowed, fists balling the fabric of his tattered, dirty dress. The stone floor beneath him dug into his knees, and he wanted to lift his hands to his ears to shield himself from her mockery resonating in his skull. But even as he closed his eyes tightly, shoulders tensed, she was still there. The image behind his lids. It took everything to hold back the tears that threatened to fall.
He opened his eyes instead, gaze entranced by the cracks that crept out from beneath his dress, ignoring the polished maroon heels that had made their way into his vision. Long nails pulled his head back, and with a groan, he clenched his fists tighter into his dress, a gulp as he met the gaze of his hateful mother.
โYou thought you could dangle your happiness in front of me? Flaunt the happy ending I always wanted?โ
โYouโฆ donโt think I deserve himโฆ,โ Dazai manages through pants of pain.
โI know you donโt deserve him! Look at you,โ she sneers, forcefully shoving him back, his shoulder connecting with the floor first, with another groan. โYou are nothing but dirt beneath everyoneโs feet. Nothing but rags. To think Guivre would smile down on someone like you. Bestow great fate upon you, HA! The fairest of them all? Youโre a carpet to be walked on, and donโt you dare look at me like that! You disgusting creature!โ She screams, raising a hand in the air, and Dazai knows better. He closes his eyes, an involuntary whimper as he anticipates the strike of a hand as quick as a snake. But it never comes. Instead, itโs her laugh again.
"Come now, dear. You donโt really think I would punish you,โ she coos sweetly, and Dazai wants to cry. He hates this. The violence of a predator, but the cooing of a mother lost, and Dazai wanted to wrap her in his arms. To be embraced.
Her arms wrap around him, and the same fingers that pulled at his hair stroke softly through his sweaty curls, and he whimpers. He holds her close, forehead pressed into her shoulder as he shakes. Inhaling her perfume, he almost forgets the iced floor, her body shielding the ugly cracks beneath. He focuses instead on the fingers that soothe his conflicted feelings through confusion, sadness, and weakness. Oh, how he hates this so much, and his tears spill.
โThere, there, dear. There, there. We wouldnโt want your dearly beloved prince to see you like this.โ Droplets fall harder, as her words squeeze his heart into a deep constriction, and he forgets how to breathe.
Chuuya.
โYour prince has sent word that heโd like to see you again, my dear. Oh, but if only he knew you donโt want to see him again.โ
No.
Dazai shakes his head as panic sets in beneath his skin, goosebumps rising on the hair on his arms. No, he does want to see Chuuya again. He wants Chuuya to come for him. He wants Chuuya to take him away. He wants to be in his loveโs arms.
Mother, please. No. Please let me see him again. Mother, I โ
โGood, dear. Good. You donโt ever have to see him again. Iโll let my mercenaries know. Itโs okay, my dear. Everything will be alright. After all, mother knows best.โ
