@ Hearth & Home
"Don't be silly, I can stay open a little longer. There's no need to rush,"
"Oh, I'm sure you'd rather run off to your evening plans than leave me around to effectively window shop. Besides, my seethe sister never did tell me what to lift for her, so it can wait till tomorrow."
@ The Barrel Pub
“Oh I’m sure that’s completely true,” she said with a note of sarcasm
"Are you implying I'm being deceitful?" She teased.
"Oh come off it, Esmeralda." He snapped, flopping back into his seat. "When have I ever made a premediated turn? The whole lot of you were supposed to go about your newly turned lives. Even Emilia once I helped her find her sister. I am done. And I am tired."
He groaned, letting his head fall back against the chair. "Sure...a simple apology for ruining the lives of many. That will naturally solve the problem. We will all just hug it out. Sit around a campfire and roast marshmallows. Like a family." Brining his free hand to his nose, he closed his eyes. "You've all been put here to ruin me."
Rubbing his forehead he sat in silence then. Not commenting on her assessment. "Leave me..." He whispered. "Please...just. Go."
"Does it matter? Some have left to never return, some stay with you always, others come and go. But you have never once forbade any of us from you until now. If you expect me to believe it's because you're tired, you're deluding yourself." Esmeralda narrowed her eyes at him. "You're a fucking horrible liar, Andre. You're in too deep to pull this off after the ruffled feathers settle."
She didn't interrupt him as he spoke. No, she remained deadly still and silent for a long moment, even as the quiet fell over them again. But when she did move it was a swift action, darting with her full speed to where she caught Andre's face in her bloodied hand, forcing him to look at her. "There comes a time when you have to be the one to help yourself--I can't do it for you, Andre. And if you won't then..."
She fell silent again, admittedly overcome as her emotions started to swell. She stepped back, releasing him from her hold in the same instance. It was a rare occurrence for her to actually show much more emotion outside of the realm of anger, but now she felt desperately defeated, and it hung in the air around her. Esme turned her head away from Andre to shield her encroaching pain, but knew well enough that her voice was unsteady now. "The choice is yours... Are you the man we've known you to be? Or the monster you believe yourself to be?"
Esme turned on her heel, not waiting to hear his answer. She didn't want to know, didn't want to linger and be hurt any further. And it took nearly everything she had not to tear up before she'd shut the door behind her.
He inhaled sharply at her comment about Andre. He exhaled through his teeth. "What the bloody hell do you know about that? Or even how Emi plays into any of it? I would hope she's nothing like him. She lacks the parts." His words were cold as ice, but his eyes showed a great deal of pain he couldn't mask right now. "Who isn't a burden to her? She has a very cemented view of the world doesn't she? If you don't fit into it...she ends you. Or didn't you know that about our dear, Emilia? She's very righteous. As she is permitted to be. Given what she's been through. Being estranged from her family, launched into this life as she was. Why wouldn't I think that?"
Esmeralda did roll her eyes then, at the whole miserable lot of it. God, he could never accept the good that was in front of him, even when it smacked him in the face--and heaven knew that very action sounded tempting to try to waken him to his reality. "I know enough to know it's different, even beyond the more biological factors of their sexes. You know it too. But I don't blame you for having fear." She did move then, slightly jostling Enzo from his position leaned against her so that she was now looking at him head on and holding his face. "You're a fucking idiot, do you know that? Always halfway right and then rambling so very far off base... Emilia is complex and exacting and set in her ways, yes, but she has never once viewed you that way. Resented the implication of needing to be protected, sure, but what woman wouldn't? And that is far from a burden. If you feel that way it is only because you should view that of yourself. Do try not to be so thick-headed, Enzo. It's tiresome after so many decades." Esme sighed then, relinquishing her grip on him but not moving any futher away. "She loves you. You are her future. Let that be your truth."

@ a lake side cafe
"I love the way the sunlight sparkles on the surface on days like this," she said of the clear blue sky and the the sun dancing on the water.
Esme looked up as the other woman spoke, but her attention diverted to the water in question. "Did you mean to say that out loud?" It wasn't that she disagreed, but the comment had come rather out of nowhere, so it had her curious.
Enzo slumped a bit at her words. Because he hadn't wanted to know that. That his sadness had somehow leaked into the rest of the seethe. Where it didn't need it. He settled for petting the remaining bit of the blood bag, a sad sort of smile on his face. "As if anyone could pretend such a thing." He murmured, falling in against her a bit. Needing the support more than he realized until now. With a heavy sigh, he shook his head. "No bother. My feelings have never been a secret. Perhaps maybe they should have been. I've put too much of a burden on Emi, now that she knows. She had no choice in it, in the end."
Esme held steady as Enzo leaned against her, just listening to him as he let the thoughts flow. She couldn’t resist a gentle disagreement on some points though. “She had a choice. If she chose that she never wanted to see you again, you would go—you may be heartbroken, but you would leave at her bidding,” she pointed out. “But she’s chosen to keep you by her side. And she fell in love with you. She chooses you still… she’s not the same as Andre was to you.” Those words were perhaps a touch beyond her giving, but she’d seen it. And she knew well enough that it was partly the cause for this pain in Enzo. “Why now do you think you’re a burden to her? What’s changed?”
He turned to face her, anger sparking in his eyes. "Oh...I wonder why I could possibly be sulking. Why are you sulking? Slumming down here with me." Rolling his eyes he turned his attention back to his task at hand, ripping into the poor blood bag like it owed him money. "Shit...it's all a bunch of bloody, stinking, shit."
“I was being genuine,” Esmeralda replied, watching Enzo carefully now. Her words and expression alike held no judgements, only an openness and a hint of curiosity behind it all. “If you want to talk about whatever’s bothering you, I’ll take it to my grave. You can even pretend I’m not here.”
@ on the roof of The Barrel pub
Damien had wanted to get out for a bit. As much as he loved his seethe and Stefan's, he just needed a change of scenery. But he'd been persuaded to at least go somewhere considered safe. So he found himself sitting on the roof of The Barrel Pub, eating an ice lolly and reading Call Me By Your Name which he'd stolen from Dain. "You know, I will never look at peaches the same way after this," he commented as he heard someone else come out onto the roof.
Esmeralda wasn’t exactly intending to become the keeper of her siblings, but here she was tracking them all over Hell’s half acre just to assure that they hadn’t gotten themselves killed. The nonchalance of Damien didn’t bother her though, and was rather a welcome distraction from the general moodiness of late.
She moved over to lean against the back of his chair, passing her eyes over the pages open before him until she gathered the meaning of his comment. “Don’t tell me it’s giving you ideas.”
“Bah…” He muttered, tossing another half eaten bag over his shoulder. “Isn’t that what the house elves are for? Surely ol unccie Stefan has a few of them milling around.”
Esme swiped a barstool from beside the little island countertop and brought it over to sit beside Enzo. “Why are you sulking? And you are sulking, before you try to argue with me.”

“Oh, but it is a party. And you’re its insistent host.” Esmeralda rolled her eyes a bit at his latter comments, twisting the broken glass in between her fingertips even though the jagged edges threatened to draw blood. “Rich coming from you, what with the charicature you’ve contented yourself in becoming.”
She allowed him to speak uninterrupted, with little reaction taking hold of her expression. That is, until the mention of Sage’s brother, which elicited a faint but still raised brow. Esme centered herself again, leaning on her knees as she looked across at Andre. “Saving them, hmm? More like removing them from any sort of protections they have and putting bright red targets on their backs to be used as pawns and manipulation tactics against you in this. You think Morpheus’ seethe believes you hate us? You’ve as good as gold them that we’d be perfect bargaining chips. Think of that?” She paused in the way he had before continuing. “Oh that’s right, you weren’t thinking at all. You, as we’ve established, were lashing out.” She leaned in, almost daringly close to Andre now given then state he was in. “You’re afraid. I don’t say you don’t have a right to be. I’m far from one to be as foolish as to think there’s no danger here to protect against. But you are wrong in thinking this will protect them. This endangers them. And if you love them, and I know that you do, you would face them and tell them the truth. Give them their best odds. Let them decide for themselves for once… whether you’re just a man, or a monster.”
Esme straightened her torso again but didn’t get up yet, instead holding up the shard of glass in her hand again as if it were one of her knives. “Sage is not bound and chained in his room. So he very well could have already come in here to kill you.” She tightened her grip on the shard, slitting open her palm in doing so. “And how easy that would make it for you, to die the villain in someone’s story. To be hated.” She released the glass which promptly fell to the ground again and shattered all the further, leaving her blood to mingle with the wine pooling on the floor. “You’re not protecting anyone by wallowing, or by casting them off either. You’re only being made into a fool. Don’t you see?”
"Your a right bitch, anyone ever tell you that." He muttered, though anyone with sense would know he didn't mean it. He caught sight of her with the glass and jerked forward but only made it a little bit further and choked on a sob. "Stop that. Stop it right now."
He sat there, just staring at the mix of glass and blood, feeling sick to his stomach. Not because he was hungry, he'd long since gotten past that. Its because she'd hurt herself, in his presence. Which was not fair, not at all. He couldn't really gather his thoughts. Not into any form of coherency anyway.
"Fine by me." He said flatly, finally raising his eyes to her. "Let's start with you then...hmm?" Taking a breath, his lips twitched a bit but he couldn't muster the smirk he needed. "I suppose at this point you've all deduced that Morpheus and I were lovers. Once upon a time. He had three soldiers, Sage, Laszlo...whom I'm sure you saw at the party...and Sage's twin brother. The three of them were his secret weapons. I was fine with that. What did I care..." He shrugged. "He was...an awful partner...all things considered. But I loved him. I didn't know...until Erebus told me...about the torture. Do you ever wonder why Sage's loses himself? It's a trigger. A trigger that Morpheus designed. Gage and Laszlo have them too."
He leaned back against the chair he was pooled beneath. "Then...stuff and things happened. I'm not going to tell you the details as they are secrets that are not mine to share. But we fled...Erebus, myself and Sage. The only one I could convince to leave with me. The other two...too far gone I imagine."
"However..." He said, cocking his head at her. "Sage didn't want to leave his brother. But I made him. I made both of them forget, Sage and Erebus. Because it was choice I had to make. Save the one Erebus begged me to...or the other. I chose Sage....didn't I?"
“Rather poor judgement on your part to turn me then, wasn’t it? You get an eternity of my bitchiness for your trouble,” she retorted. Esmeralda held Andre’s gaze as he reached for her, as he stumbled against his confines. Because it confirmed her suspicions. He cared. He always did. But she didn’t go to him even as she released the glass, even as the cuts on her hand slowly knitted themselves back together. “Funny. You care even about such a little act of harm, and to me of all people. Far worse is possible now, particularly to those of us who pull at your heartstrings even more than I could… and you know it.”
Esme listened with a neutral expression. While most of the details were new, very few of them came as a surprise. And even those she wouldn’t allow to bowl her over or give him a reaction. Because it didn’t bring about fear in her, exactly. Wariness, yes. But not very much for her sake. She was on the outskirts of things and much more capable of handling herself compared to some of the seethe.
“Do you think that makes you a villain?” She eventually questioned. “Nobody ever thought of you as a saint, last I checked.” She leaned against the wall then, resting her head back against it and shaking it ever so slightly. “It is exhausting the way that you lot dwell in melodrama, you know that? Tell the truth, apologize for hurt you may have caused, and don’t insult anyone by attempting to explain yourself if they don’t ask for them. Hurt people often dont want explanations.”
Esme turned her head to look at Andre once more, allowing a bit of her sadness to slip into her gaze against her better judgement. “Just because you have done bad things does not mean they will be incapable of loving you, or even forgiving you in time. But you’ll never know what they’ll do until you stop feeling sorry for yourself and speak to them.”
"Not at all. You lot are basically family anyway," she held out the bowl of raspberry's she was eating, silently offering Esmeralda some. "It's nice having the place so full I think,"
“You,” Esme began, taking a raspberry in her fingertips, “are too nice.” She popped the berry into her mouth then, faintly humming at the tartness. “But I bet you’d still find some of us to be more agreeable cousins and houseguests than others, not that you’ll confirm my suspicions, I’m sure.”
Always alone...
Enzo hadn't wanted to leave Emi's side. But Erebus could comfort her in a way that he could not. And didn't that leave a sour taste in his mouth. He wasn't feeling very steady himself. That wouldn't do.
So he ventured to the kitchens. Which took an embracingly long amount of time after it occurred to him he wasn't at home. And how the hell was he supposed to know where Stefan's kitchen was? That, and he would never actually ask for directions. Ever.
He eventually found it. Thankfully, there was an entire cooler of blood bags, just there, out in the open. So he helped himself to a handful and seated himself on a stool and...inhaled them.
The problem with consuming so much blood in a very limited amount of time meant he ended up feeling pretty loopy. So when someone else entered the kitchen he didn't bother to move. "AB is a little sour." He muttered, tossing the half empty blood bag away from himself.
Esmeralda wasn’t the sort to sit around easily. So somewhere in the wee hours of the morning—or night, really—she’d at least taken to wandering through the Manor House, exploring it more than she’d ever had opportunity to before. But the pervasive smell of blood in the air caught her attention after awhile and brought her to the kitchen, where Enzo was clearly over-indulging himself given the multitude of discarded blood bags on the floor beside him. “You could at least clean up after yourself. Even most toddlers manage that much.”
@ The sitting room of the Italian seethe
"Don't be silly, of course you can join me in here," she said making room on the sofa.
Esmeralda nodded her thanks before she sat down. “I’m surprised you all aren’t sick of us already. One night is enough, but nearly a day?” She laughed a bit. “I’d be running for the hills.”
Dante smirked into his beer. “No. I don’t belong to any seethe.”
“I gathered as much.”

“Well in that case I’m sorry I missed it,” she said dryly of the party.
“I think your humor could use a bit of work.”
@ Merriwick Inn
“I’m waiting for crumpet and tea hour actually. Only ten minutes to go,”
Esmeralda made a mental note to scold Linnea for her taste in meeting spots before turning back to the stranger she’d been curtly responding to thus far. “And I have about 10 minutes before I go back out the front door if my friend continues to make no appearance.”
