𝓈𝑜𝓊𝓁𝓂𝒶𝓉𝑒.

“i swear, i think our moms are prepared for any major life event we could throw their way.”  maeve laughed at the thought.  but it was true, too.  she knew her mother was the more prepared for anything of her parents, and she was sure that their moms were both gushing in the background while they waited for milena to officially start planning the wedding.  “i can’t wait for you to start planning simply because i gotta know what vivian’s got up in her own idea book.”  maeve was glad that her friendship with milena had been as it was.  she couldn’t imagine going through life without the girl sitting next to her, and she had both of their parents to thank.  sure, she was maybe being a bit too sentimental given everything, and she didn’t want to cry or look like she was near tears.  maeve turned her head to the little girl sitting at the table, who was all too focused on her coloring book than on the conversation happening in front of her.  a grin on her face, “yeah, she’s kind of perfect, huh?”  maeve mused, tilting her head to the side before turning her head back to look at milena and she put her hand on top of milena’s.  “you’re the best friend a girl could ask for, to be by my side through everything in life.”  maeve said softly, smiling at milena.  she turned back to the magazines in front of the two of them and looked at the pictures.  she had thousands of pictures in her mind of what milena and rhett’s wedding could be like.  “that does look beautiful.”  she nodded.  “i think we could get tents, too, to be prepared.  like, depending on where you want the ceremony and reception, we can put tents up by the doorways so people can enjoy the outside air without worrying about the weather.”  maeve said thoughtfully, picturing it in her mind.  and it was clear, she could see so many different options and moments in her mind of what just might happen.  “hypothetically, have you thought about a dress?  at least, like some kind of style.  my mom’s was completely lace--gorgeous, really.  she looks like an angel in every photograph, too.”

maeve was busy making breakfast, avery sitting at the counter moving the plates and silverware around to help “set the table”--mainly it was something to keep her daughter busy while maeve made breakfast.  homemade cinnamon buns were in the oven and maeve was busy flipping pancakes.  “okay, so my mom called me this morning, which is why i’ve been up so early.  with the time difference where she’s filming she forgot how early it would be for me.”  maeve said when she heard footsteps heading towards the kitchen.  “apparently my dad’s going through one of the storage units and he found some old things from the new york loft.  one of which, is a whole box of things that he’s sure belongs to you.  so, no, i didn’t steal your panic! shirt all those years ago, and then lose it.  the storage unit did.”

“m, babe, if you think our moms have not been secretly planning and prepping for this day from the day we started going on dates and talking about crushes...”  maeve trailed off.  she knew her own mother was prepared for just about anything maeve or her sisters could throw her way.  maeve loved it, but she also was curious about it too--and her mom kept those secrets tight lipped.  maeve had snuck around to see if she could find anything years ago, but she never could.  “i don’t want to make this about me, since you’re the one getting married.  but i also, cannot believe that we’re going through this.  it feels like yesterday you and i were in the doctors office finding out i was pregnant with avery.”  maeve couldn’t help but get a little teary eyed thinking of that.  if her relationship with elijah was sour, she was always grateful that it had given her avery.  “fall would be nice.  i mean, rain only affects everything if you’re planning on doing an outdoor ceremony.  besides, if that’s something you want, we can always have a contingency plan for an indoor ceremony just in case.  hypothetically of course.”

maeve had been in such a weird spot when she’d gotten pregnant with avery.  and looking back, she really had come such a far way from where she’d started.  now she had a semi decent relationship between herself and her ex, for avery’s sake.  but there was no romantic ties between them anymore.  “god, worrying doesn’t stop.  thinking about sending aves to day care in the fall is scary.  but i know it’ll be good for her.”  it was almost too soon to think about that.  but she knew it was good, sending her there when she was three to give her time to adjust before she was ready for school school.  it was just, weird to think about.  “i mean, i’m not sure if i’m the best example.  but because elijah is somewhat involved in avery’s life we’re open with each other.  like if there’s someone in our lives.”  maeve shrugged.  “not that it’s the same, elijah isn’t always super involved nor does he want to be, but i don’t want to ever close that door for avery’s sake, she deserves more than what he’s given her,” which was just money over the years and a few sporadic visits, “but he’s still her father.  and i wouldn’t want to be surprised by anything, you know?”

maeve raised her eyebrows and looked at him, “sorry, did i hear you right?  slam poetry?”  she asked, unsure if she was close to a bit of laughter, but she did hold her tongue as she looked at him.  she shrugged her shoulders, but she wasn’t all too put off by the idea.  she had free time anyway, since her ex had insisted upon taking avery for a couple of nights while he was in town.  so she didn’t have anything better to do.  “god, so long as no one expects me to read from searching from something because i literally don’t know where my copy is.”  which was a lie.  maeve knew exactly where it was, she just didn’t plan on bringing it up any time soon.  her whole world wasn’t the mermaid book she wrote as a teen, anyway.  “i guess i can spare some free time in my schedule.”
