âItâs okay,â he muttered, taking a shuddered breath. âI made my choice.â He looked to the little girl. The one that the pole had been meant for. He smiled this time. The laugh was going to hurt too much. He knew that. âYou sound like her. She had hope too. Mari. She would like you.â He moved to grasp something next to him, when he knew she wasnât going to listen to him about death.
âAnd Iâm making mine.â Hayley was stubborn to a fault, at times ( much like this one ) it was a good thing. Moving a few things out of the way, being careful to not jostle Nicholas she looked up to him with a small chuckle. âI met her, we had a drink together. She was nice.â Just as she was about ready, Hayley looked to the little girl. âThis isnât going to be pretty, look away for a moment okay?â Watching as the girl did just that, Hayley took the other end of the pole between her hands and bent the pole until it broke. âOkay we need to get you up and to a hospital.â
