punk is not more inherently political than the majority of other music genres. if i said 'wow recycling is so EDM !' or 'public libraries are disco!', you would stare at me and have no idea what i'm talking about. i like a lot of punk music, i am a longtime enjoyer of 70s uk punk, but i think some ppl latch onto it bc they view it as the last 'true' or 'cool' subculture or music genre...and that's just not really true. i think there are many reasons behind that, but i think an element of is that the 'common' punk subculture is predominantly white, unfortunately, and that's why ppl (esp white tumblr users) are so obsessed with the idea of it being that 'one true genre/subculture/whatever.' idk if i'm phrasing this right.

following this... saying certain genres are more political than others has always confused me... unless its like an extremely central part to the genre and its literally nothing without politics, then who cares!! its all just vibrating molecules hitting your ear!!
