i think anime and gacha games would have better femboys if trans women and non-binary people were allowed to exist in these narratives.

looking at this post again I was mostly just trying to be like. It's fine to like trans women or think they're attractive it's weird that we have an entire category that we put characters who are trans women shaped into because we are uncomfortable with them being women. and when we stop doing that, the exploration of (a very specific type of) feminine men comes off less like you're trying to launder a category of women that people want but are uncomfortable with wanting past their transphobia and more like you think that it is genuinely interesting and fun to explore character trait.

i dont really like using descriptors like femboy or tomboy because they tend to overgeneralize the character into something marketable whereas "sporty and/or is into a specific subset of traditionally masculine hobbies or interests" is like. just one character detail of many and it can be a bit limiting to only think of ones own character through this specific lens.

coming back to this I think my frustration is we're really encouraged to think about and sell characters as marketable categories. the way you get people to give a shit about your character is to tell people it fits into some very narrow vessel instead of being like, yeah she helped her girlfriend out working on a moped she bought not realizing she purchased someone elses project.
